Clad in a low-cut, flowing black gown and leather boots, the blond beauty arrived at the GQ Men of the Year event in Berlin, Germany, with a beaming smile — and that was just the beginning of her milestone night.
The singer was certainly touched as she received the Humanitarian Award for her Anastacia Fund charity, which has been established with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. She is only the second woman to receive this honor, the first being Annie Lennox in recognition of her work to raise HIV awareness.
Anastacia was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003, and underwent surgery at the time, only to be diagnosed again 10 years later. In February 2013, she was forced to cancel her European tour in order to cope with the resurgence of the disease.
As for her health trials, the "I'm Outta Love" singer explained, "In light of Breast Cancer Awareness month I wanted to take the opportunity to support a cause particularly close to my heart. I was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time earlier this year and am currently in the final stages of recovery after undergoing a double mastectomy."
Her recovery is definitely coming along, as she knocked it out of the park during her performance at the GQ gala.
"It has been an intense journey," she reflected. "But I am feeling great and ready to start the next chapter." It seems to us, however, that the next chapter has already begun.
It's nice to see stars like Anastacia and Angelina Jolie being so open about their health situations. We hope it inspires the masses; it certainly inspires us.
