"When I heard about the massive scale of the Typhoon Haiyan disaster, I wanted to help in any way I could," Bieber said in a statement. "One of the best ways I can do that is to bring a major fundraising effort to my fans all around the world – especially via social media." And Bieber is doing just that, getting the message out via Twitter to his 47.5 million followers.
"Everyone knows I've got the best fans in the world," Bieber said in a video announcing his charity campaign. "So the moment I heard about the tragedy a few weeks back, I knew I could count on you guys to make a difference."
Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines in early November, killing thousands and leaving millions without homes. Funds raised from Bieber's campaign will go to UNICEF, Action Against Hunger and the Philam Foundation to help those in need in areas devastated by the typhoon.
This is far from the first time Bieber has been involved in supporting a good cause. He also set the Make-A-Wish Foundation's record for granting the most wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses.
