Bonnaroo Rock 2012 (Alt/Indie/Folk/Jam/Metal)

Of all the musical styles represented at Bonnaroo this year, rock is king. The event started as a "jam band" festival but has continued to expand every year. And while jam bands are still represented, they are but a fraction of the music you will hear at Bonnaroo.

Metal and folk rock are also represented, but by a very small subset. So small in fact, some would argue that these genres are but tokens, included only to highlight Bonnaroo's "open mind".

When it comes to rock, and in fact when it comes to any genre, there is no denying that alternative and indie rock rule Bonnaroo. The first five names listed on the official Bonnaroo billing are Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Phish, The Beach Boys and Bon Iver. These are all very large draws in their own right, but this is just the tip of the iceberg, other household names you can see at the festival include Alice Cooper, The Shins, Ben Folds Five, Bad Brains, Feist, St. Vincent and many more.

For this playlist I've included a single song for 58 artists playing at Bonnaroo this year that can be classified as alt rock, indie rock, folk rock, heavy metal, or just plain old rock.

Check the official website for dates and times. And be sure to check out our Bonnaroo playlists of hip-hop artists, jazz, world music & soul, as well as country/Americana artists.
