Well, here's one we never saw coming. Willie Nelson has decided to endorse a candidate for the 2012 presidential election. What some might find surprising? It's a Republican!
However, Nelson's choice--former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson, who officially launched his run in April--is a Republican who just happens to share a cause near and dear to Nelson's heart. Can you guess which one? Yep, the legalization of marijuana.
Johnson, who has advocated against cannabis prohibition since his governing days (he served two terms for New Mexico starting in 1995), has the following statement on marijuana: "Control it, regulate, tax it."
That's remarkably similar to Nelson's slogan for his "Teapot Party"--a politically minded group that he formed after he was arrested for pot possession in November 2010. "Tax it, regulate it, legalize it."
