"I've dropped the divorce," Billy Ray said during an appearance on talk show The View, which aired Friday. "I want to put my family back together."
Billy Ray's relationship with his wife isn't the only fence he's mending. He told The View his relationship with daughter Miley--who caused waves in December by being caught on camera smoking pot --is improving as well.
The country star and actor additionally smoothed over some ragged feelings about his family's relationship with Disney (which is responsible, of course, for the Cyrus fame vehicle Hannah Montana).
Initially having blamed the hit TV show for wreaking havoc within his family, Billy Ray softened his words: "I love Hannah Montana. I love Disney. They didn't tear my family apart." He explained that fame in and of itself was the problematic issue.
He also clarified that his controversial remarks (specifically in a candid interview he did for GQ in December) were largely due to stress, calling his life at the time "a dark mess."
He claims doing interviews during that period was a huge mistake on his part. "Doing an interview when you're mad and scared--it's a whole lot like going to the grocery store when you're hungry," he quipped.
However, things are definitely looking up. Billy Ray assured the View hosts that his family is doing better than ever. "I feel like for the first time me and my entire family are communicating."
For those who miss Billy Ray as a musician rather than a headline-maker--the best part of the View appearance was not the air-clearing interview, but rather his performance of "Runway Lights" from his upcoming album, I'm An American, scheduled for a June 28 release.
