Last month, we learned that country sweetheart Carrie Underwood would take on the iconic role of Maria von Trapp in a live NBC production of the classic musical "The Sound of Music."
For those who had a bit of trouble envisioning her in the role Julie Andrews made famous, fret no more. Underwood has tweeted a first look at herself in the costume — braids, billowing sleeves, look of bliss on her face. See for yourselves:
Okay, so it's a little bit weird. (Feel free to shout out in comments if you disagree.) And, it's not completely true to the original — Underwood's laced-up corset-style bodice appears a little sexier than the apron-styled getup Andrews sported on the 196os promotional poster. Looks as if her costume designer decided a crisp white blouse would be a spunkier update to Andrews's old-fashioned black one, as well.
NBC's live holiday production of "The Sound of Music" will air on December 5. Be sure to tune in and see if Underwood has unlocked the solution to solving a problem like Maria.
