James and Decker (Photo: Michael Chang)What do you get when you mix two really good-looking rising stars--one in the world of football, one in country music--and an upcoming wedding? Why, a reality show, of course!
Denver Broncos wide receiver Eric Decker and country/pop singer Jessie James have announced that their new series, Love and Other Contact Sports: Eric and Jessie, will debut this summer.
The show promises to "chronicle the sexy young couple’s road to the altar as they juggle careers, relationships, family and more," and reportedly has the seal of approval from Broncos president John Elway, who doesn't seem to be concerned about the fact that pro athletes historically haven't juggled sports and reality TV too well (Lamar Odom, anyone?).
Decker and James, who met through a friend, announced their engagement last April. Since then, they've been seen around town at events commemorating their respective fields, including ESPN-sponsored parties and country music awards shows.
Although she's made strides in Nashville, James is unquestionably lesser known at large than her ballplaying fiance, holding a number of connections in the celeb world but flying under the radar for the most part in terms of public recognition. The brunette beauty has worked with the likes of Katy Perry and Kara DioGuardi--both of whom contributed songwriting credits to her 2009 debut album--and earned enthusiastic musical praise from celeb gossip extraordinare Perez Hilton.
She's also fought off advances from equally huge names. In 2009, she was famously hit on by none other than John Mayer, allegedly sparking the 2010 composition "Dear John"--and, yes, it's very different from the Taylor Swift version. Although James noted at the time she chose to blow Mayer off, her song speaks longingly of perhaps giving the serial womanizer another chance.
James is currently signed to Show Dog-Universal Records, founded by country superstar Toby Keith, and has been working on a follow-up to her debut since 2010. She's since released three singles from the project, but it's not clear if Nashville knows exactly what to do with her--hence, the world of reality TV seems to be a perfect avenue.
As her fiance himself tweeted on Monday, "I am so excited for this new opportunity & for @thejessicajames to show how crazy talented she is!"
At any rate, both halves of the couple seem to be amusingly sweet enough based on their twitter feeds. While James cracks jokes, laments her body odor, and posts Vines of cleaning out Decker's ears and singing to their tiny pet Yorkie (adorably cuddled in Decker's muscular arms), Decker earnestly assures fans that a reality show won't get in the way of his football career.
"I have priorities," he insists.
