Danny Gokey Is Now ‘Daddy’ Gokey!

Danny and Leyicet Gokey/FacebookIt's a happy new year for American Idol alum Danny Gokey, who along with wife Leyicet, welcomed a baby boy on Sunday evening. The little guy is named Daniel Emanuel, and he's the first child for both parents.

People confirmed the birth early Monday morning, reporting that Daniel arrived exactly on his due date, weighed in at 8 pounds 11 ounces, and that the couple are "overjoyed" at his arrival.

Gokey told People he's happy his career will allow him the flexibility to spend lots of time with his new son, adding, "I have so many exciting projects ahead this year but a brand new baby is an amazing way to get the new year started."

Little Daniel arrived just in time to help his parents celebrate their first anniversary. The Gokeys got married last January 29 in Florida. In July, Gokey announced happily that his new wife was pregnant.

This is the second marriage for Gokey, who famously detailed the events of his first marriage on American Idol. The singer lost his first wife, Sophia, in 2008 when the 27-year-old died following surgery for congenital heart disease. Gokey founded the charitable foundation Sophia's Heart in her honor--and, when announcing his engagement to Leyicet, the couple asked for donations to the foundation in lieu of wedding gifts.

Congratulations to the Gokeys! Be sure to leave your well wishes for the family here, too!
