Hundreds Gather To Mourn At Mindy McCready’s Florida Funeral

Mindy McCready is, finally, presumably, at peace. The long-troubled country singer’s family held her funeral Tuesday in her hometown of Fort Myers, Fla., a little more than a week after she took her own life via gunshot.

The service, which took place at the Crossroads Baptist Church, was open to the public. According to People, around 400 attended to pay their respects.

McCready’s casket was driven to the church in a white hearse; her casket was decorated with white roses. The singer’s music was played during the service—including the hit “Ten Thousand Angels"—while her portrait was displayed on the altar and various photos from her life flashed on two large video screens flanking the sanctuary.

Inge told People that the family is “devastated” by her “beautiful and talented” daughter’s death. “Her life, no matter how brief, touched many, and she will forever be our special angel,” she stated.

Inge additionally noted to News-Press: “Our Mindy was so tired. She felt helpless. I know she wanted to be healed…She was in her darkest moment and she was hurt by so many allegations. She was too emotional to understand."

Mourners comfort McCready's mother (Splash News)McCready will reportedly also be buried in Fort Meyers. A special memorial given by her musical peers and friends is scheduled to take place next month in Nashville.

McCready was only 37 years old when she was found dead on the front porch of her Arkansas home on February 17. Authorities have ruled the death a suicide. The tragedy took place just a month after her boyfriend, music producer David Wilson, was found dead in the same spot and of apparently the same cause.

The family requests that donations be made to the Mindy McCready Children's Trust, c/o John Ammons, Edison National Bank, 13000 S. Cleveland Ave., Ft. Myers, FL 33907.
