Randy Travis ‘Improving’ as He Moves to Heart Hospital

There's been quite a bit of confusion about Randy Travis's health this week--the singer was admitted to the hospital with heart issues on Sunday, resulting in conflicting reports about his condition.

In good news, his actual attending physicians have released a statement explaining what's going on, and it sounds as if the 54-year-old singer may be starting to improve.

Dr. William Gray, who is the director of cardiovascular services at Baylor Medical Center in McKinney, Texas; and Dr. Michael Mack, director of cardiovascular disease at Dallas's Baylor Health Care System, discussed Travis's condition on Wednesday.

"He had been in previously excellent health until three weeks prior when he developed a viral upper respiratory illness," said Gray. "He was admitted at Baylor McKinney with a presumptive cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure.

"At McKinney, he was stabilized and subsequently sent to The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano for a higher level of specialized care in the care of Dr. Michael Mack. "

Dr. Mack elaborated on this, explaining that the transfer was a joint decision between the two doctors. "Since his transfer, his condition has stabilized and he has shown signs of improvement," he noted.

The two medical centers are about a half-hour's drive from each other.

"On behalf of his Mr. Travis’ family, friends and associates, we would like to express our extreme gratitude for the overwhelming affection and support that Mr. Travis has received," Mack said, promising to give further updates on Travis's health as his condition changes.

Fans can watch the two doctors speak in a video posted to Baylor Health's media center.
