What's a great way to start 2012? Well, if you're reigning American Idol Scotty McCreery, a platinum album certainly isn't a bummer of a beginning to the year!
Yep, it's true: McCreery's debut record, Clear As Day, has just been certified for sales of more than 1 million--a mere three months after its release.
"Never in a million years did I dream that the album would go platinum in three months," McCreery says of the achievement. "Never in a million years did I dream that the album would go platinum. It's wild! It's going to take me a few months or years to really wrap my head around it."
The young singer makes sure to give credit where credit is due for this latest honor. "It's a huge testament to the loyalty of country music fans and how great they have been to me this year," he notes. "I want to say a huge thanks to the fans for this."
McCreery's Clear As Day proved to be an extraordinary debut right out of the gate--the record entered the Billboard Top 200 and Top Country Albums charts at No. 1, making the 18-year-old the youngest man in history to debut on the top of the all-genre chart. It also boasts the highest sales of any country solo album released in 2011.
The certification is not only a fantastic kickoff to the new year, it's also a timely accomplishment to put a spotlight on yet another "first" for McCreery--his first country music tour, which he is starting on Thursday. He'll be joining Brad Paisley on the road, along with the Band Perry. Find out when he'll be in your town by checking here.
Congrats to Scotty! Be sure to leave your well-wishes for him here. Will you be catching him on tour? Be sure to let me know!
