Toby Keith’s Longtime Bassist Dies In Car Crash

Chuck Goff/FacebookSad news for Toby Keith’s camp: The superstar’s longtime bass player and bandleader, Carl "Chuck" Goff Jr. has died as a result of a car crash Wednesday night.

Goff, who was 54, was traveling alone when he collided with another vehicle in rural Cleveland County, Oklahoma—which is about a half-hour out of Oklahoma City. Reportedly, the other driver escaped serious injury. Police are still in the process of investigating the accident.

“We are deeply saddened by the sudden death of our band member, Chuck Goff,” Keith said in a statement available on his official site and social media. “He was a close friend for over 25 years, the band leader and bass player. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family.”

Goff is credited with writing two of Keith’s hits, “You Ain’t Much Fun” and “Upstairs Downtown.”
Keith’s next tour date will be April 13 in Florence, Ariz. Fans can check his site for any updates or cancellations.
