American Idol, The Day After: St. Louis Auditions Dish

Last night, "American Idol" headed to St. Louis, for the final auditions episode of Season 11. (Sorry, New Jersey auditioners, your originally scheduled episode has been scrapped.) There were a few (five, specifically) promising singers in the mix, but today my "Day After" co-host Matt Whitfield and I are still feeling a little deflated. And a little worried.  Seriously, that's it? No more auditions? This is all Season 11 has to work with?

Is there enough standout talent this season to make for a really exciting Hollywood Week, which starts next Wednesday? We hope so...but we're not sure. Watch Matt and I discuss the future of "Idol" above, and feel free to post your own comments on the message board below.

A few things to point out:

      1. You say "If it sucks, we still have the voice!"
Ok, but what if the voice sucks?

      2. You say Idol "used to be good?" It still is good. Scotty sold platinum.

New Jersey didn't have a callback audition for judges-after the producer rounds they shipped them to other cities for judges callbacks. For example, Alex Wong auditioned originally in Jersey, but they sent him to San Diego for callbacks.

Yes, they did stop the NJ rounds at the producer-screening level, that is true. But there was supposed to be additional auditions episode this coming Wednesday that got cancelled, which I find pretty odd. Wonder who ended up on the cutting-room floor, and why?

It was the "Best of The Rest" that was supposed to air, but I think the producers decided to scratch that because people were growing tired of auditions and wanted Hollywood to start.

Sorry to say I turned this off. I'm from St.Louis and wanted to hear what they
had to say. Unfortunately I could not make out half of what was being said. They both trailed off into the distance after a few words on a new subject.
I don't know if it's the hand held Mike's or what but you better fix your sound so people can hear what's being said. Sorry

The accepted shortened form for more than one microphone is not "Mikes"! It is "mics."

OK thanks, Jlem - we've never heard that complaint before, actually, but we can look into tweaking the audio levels for the next taping...

I love Idol, but I think the saturation effect is taking place. How many of these shows can we take without getting bored with the whole concept? Hopefully some of the people we haven't really seen in the audition shows will show up big time in Hollywood.

For some reason just can't get into this season, maybe its the letting people get in with a good story thing. I'm sure the numbers will dwindle down once they hit Hollywood though then the great will come to the top!! Here's hoping.

Well, I give up!...I've been watching AI since it started but this video made me realize that right now the most important thing in EVERY show (AI, X factor, the voice) is the SOB STORY...well, i remember that Fantasia had a sad story but that wasn't the most important thing...and i don't really remember that Carrie U. had a sob story...so why now do i have to see those stories more than the singing competition!, I'm really really tired of this...Thanks Lindsey because your page is really great! but one recommmendation: please don't talk sooo much about Adam Lambert. I know you're his friend but we know already that he's great, so don't talk so much...let things happens...Bye and good luck!
