Last night, the top 8 "American Idol" contestants sang songs of the cinema, and the episode wasn't exactly Oscar-worthy stuff. With a few exceptions (namely James Durbin's "Heavy Metal" tour de force), Movies Night felt like a sleepy matinee, not a first-run main attraction. But today, my Yahoo! Entertainment colleague Matt Whitfield and still I have plenty of burning questions. Such as...
Why didn't anyone sing anything from Nigel Lythgoe's 1980 cult flick The Apple? Why couldn't Clint Jun Gamboa be brought back as a Wild Card to reprise his soundtrack to The Room? Why did the judges come down so hard on Haley Reinhart, but give everyone else a free pass? Why did Jacob Lusk foolishly do a song so closely associated with Clay Aiken? Will America give metal a chance? And is my man Paul "Risky Business" McDonald at risk of going home?
