  • The "So You Think You Can Dance" nationwide tour, featuring the Season 8 contestants, is underway, and from the looks of an October 11th Cincinnati tour stop vlog posted by the show's Ricky Jaime and Clarice Ordaz (with Tadd Gadduang goofing off in the background), the S8 kids are having tons of fun on the road.

The cute, kooky clip finds Ricky and Clarice backstage with a "fruity" new friend, a green apple nicknamed Jana. It's sort of the "SYTYCD" equivalent of Tom Hanks buddying up to his volleyball, Wilson, or maybe it's a sly reference to that 1980 cult film Nigel Lythgoe choreographed, The Apple.

See Ricky, Clarice, Tadd, and Jana The Apple in this exclusive backstage clip...and watch this space for more tour vlogs from the "SYTYCD" touring cast!

  • Earlier today, headbanging Idol James Durbin posted a video of himself in the studio with Mick Mars.

Yes, that Mick Mars. From Motley Crue.

I'm not entirely sure what else I can write here, really, that can expound upon the fact that James Durbin, the "American Idol" contestant who begged America to give metal a chance, is working on his Wind-Up Records debut, Memories Of A Beautiful Disaster, with the one-and-only guitar god who played the iconic and awesome riffs on "Livewire," "Looks That Kill," "Too Young To Fall In Love," "Dr. Feelgood," etc.

Wow, first James sang with Zakk Wylde and Judas Priest on "Idol," now he's jamming with Mick Mars. It seems like all of his rock 'n' roll fantasies are coming true.

Memories Of A Beautiful Disaster comes out November 21. And if Mick Mars has anything to do with it, it's gonna rock. Hopefully many metal fans give it a chance.

  • Fantasia Barrino, on bedrest at home while withchild, called in to "The Wendy Williams Show" Tuesday to address rumors that relatives of late gospel legend Mahalia Jackson are none too pleased that Fantasia got herself pregnant--reportedly by a married man--after signing on to star in a Mahalia biopic.

Fantasia said the first she'd even heard of the Jackson family's supposed displeasure was during the "Hot Topics" segment of Wendy's show on Monday...and that she was so surprised and upset, she "almost went into labor!"

Fantasia then claimed that after being cast in the Mahalia! role in October 2010, she was supposed to start filming in January of this year, but production was delayed when investors backed out. Wendy then insinuated that Fantasia and her unexpected pregnancy might be unfairly bearing the blame for the movie's problems, when in fact it's lack of funding that's the real issue. "I was a little pissed off," Fantasia admitted.

Fantasia told Wendy that she didn't hear from

  • This week on "The Sing-Off," the second batch of this season's two teams--arguably the better bracket on the show--competed, but even this strong group had its share of weak links. In fact, a team that had previously been one of my favorites took a mighty fall, after mangling one of Motown's all-time best songs during the retro-'60s portion of the episode. (Side notes about 1960s segment on "The Sing-Off": Enough with the Halloweenish, Brady-esque costumes already, and the next time host Nick Lachey plugs a new NBC series like "The Playboy Club," maybe network execs ought to make sure it hasn't been canceled already. Not groovy, man.)

But on the groovier side of things, one already-promising crew of pinball wizards emerged victorious and became my new fave by the end of the evening. So here's my full recap of the good, the bad, and the pitchy...

    DELTONES

As was the case last week, this week each team sang two songs--one modern hit, one '60s classic--and for their first song, this

  • As evidenced by the recent season of "The Voice," which featured multiple contestants with professional pasts (including winner Javier Colon, a former Capitol Records artist), many singers who audition for TV talent competitions are not total newbies to the showbiz game. Many of them have tried other, more traditional avenues, with some degree of success, before going the reality route. They're all great talents who somehow slipped through the cracks; all of them had potential, but for sundry sad reasons, their careers were bungled by various powers-that-be or poor life decisions. Now they see shows like "The Voice," "American Idol," "America's Got Talent," and "The X Factor" as their one last hope.

Yes, "The X Factor" is no different: Several of the remaining 32 "X Factor" contestants have serious music business experience. Granted, it's always a problem when shows like these aren't upfront about their contestants' pasts, leaving some viewers feeling disgruntled and duped when they do

  • Last night, "The X Factor" wrapped up its Boot Camp week, the process during which 162 contestants were whittled down to the final 32 (eight boys, eight girls, eight "over-30s," and eight singing groups) who will head to Judges' Houses next week and compete for a spot on the live shows.

And it was, without a doubt, THE best episode of the season so far.

Yes, my colleague Matt Whitfield and I have flip-flopped repeatedly over this show (Matt's been more of a hater than me, but I've also had my well-documented jaded moments). But this week, we are totally feeling the "X Factor" love. We're getting emotionally attached to the contestants (yes, I admit it, Dexter Haygood made me cry); we're excited to see what goes down next week as the judges start competing against each other with their assigned categories; and we're already starting an office pool, placing bets on whether Nicole Scherzinger's older singers can take on Simon Cowell's girls and L.A. Reid's boys, or if Paula Abdul has any

  • While it may have been expected given the lackluster (168,000) sales of his post-"Idol" album Live It Up, it's now official: Season 9 "American Idol" winner Lee DeWyze has been dropped by RCA Records. He is only the second "Idol" champ to be let go from BMG after releasing just one album for the label; the other one-album Idol was Season 5's Taylor Hicks. Lee is also the lowest-selling winner in "Idol" history.

According to a Hollywood Reporter interview with new RCA Records CEO Peter Edge, Lee--who was the final winner to release music under "Idol's" longtime partnership with BMG, before "Idol" affiliated itself with Jimmy Iovine's Universal Records in Season 10--is no longer signed to the label. However, as of this writing, Lee is still managed by "Idol's" 19 Entertainment.

When asked why he thought Lee's sales weren't as impressive as those of previous Idols, RCA's Edge offered the following explanation: "The best Idol results come from doing great A&R. The TV platform provides

  • This week, "The X Factor USA" announced its top 32 contestants, which is exciting and all...but it's still unlikely that any of those 32 hopefuls will come close to being as awesome as "X Factor U.K." Season 7 contestant Cher Lloyd.

Not only is Cher the only "X Factor" alum, from any country, to ever land on the NME Cool List, and not only is her legendary first, Soulja Boy/Keri Hilson-inspired "X Factor" audition still one of the coolest pop-music moments to air on British television since "Top Of The Pops" got canceled, but the will.i.am-championed teenager just keeps turning her swag on in every music video she makes.

Cher's just-premiered new video, "With Ur Love" featuring Mike Posner (yes, Mike, Cher is cooler than you), is a sherbet-bright, balloon-filled delight, and the song is an unshakeable earwig. And its overall adorableness is just off the charts. Tiah Tolliver and Simone Battle wish they could pull off something like this (although maybe Christa Collins or Tora Woloshin

  • Thursday night on "The X Factor," the good people were separated from the not-so-good people, as Simon Cowell worded it, as the remaining 100 singers were ruthlessly reduced by more than two-thirds. (This was possibly the biggest reality-TV bloodletting since that "Biggest Loser" season when 50 contestants from 50 states showed up, and Jillian Michaels told all but 14 of them to turn around and go home.) And this elimination process was executed in the most dramatic way possible, of course, since nothing about "The X Factor" is ever subtle. By the episode's end, there were tears (mostly on Paula Abdul's part), tantrums (the biggest one thrown by Simon himself), messed-up lyrics, messy song arrangements...and only 32 singers left standing. And the biggest surprise of the night didn't have anything to do with who those 32 singers were, but with which judges were assigned to mentor them.

But before the real drama commenced, three more groups sang for Simon and company. The standouts from

  •

Last night, "The X Factor" moved on to Boot Camp, aka the process during which the 162 contestants who passed the initial audition rounds were quickly whittled down to 100 (and will eventually be reduced to just 32). And despite its rather military-sounding name, Boot Camp wasn't nearly as grueling as its "American Idol" equivalent, Hollywood Week. In fact, everyone (well, everyone except snotty kid rapper Brian Bradley) was on their best behavior, even Simon Cowell. But it was still awesome television. Because, to paraphrase "X Factor" judge Paula Abdul, everyone was just there for the music.

So today, with the Judges' House rounds right around the corner and the 32 semifinalists being announced tonight, my fellow Yahoo! colleague/reality geek Matt Whitfield and I discuss last night's drama (or lack thereof), along with spoilers/predictions about the final 32 and the mentors' categories. Check out our latest "Day After" chat above...and feel free to post your own opinions on the
