  • Nigel Lythgoe celebrated his birthday onstage at Thursday's "So You Think You Can Dance" results show, but there was less cause for celebration afterwards backstage, when he and the cast had to bid farewell to eliminated contestants Ashley and Chris.

Below are Thursday night's backstage interviews with the judges, including the delightful Travis Wall, the first "SYTYCD" alum to sit behind the judging table and the best, most constructive guest judge the show has had all season.

See Nigel discusses this week's results along with this weekend's big BAFTA "Brits To Watch" event (which will be attended by Prince William and Kate Middleton) and more Lady Gaga guest judging details; see Travis talk about his unique position as a former contestant critiquing current contestants, and about his moment reuniting with Florence Welch this week (after he choreographed for her at last year's VMAs); and see Mary just be her usual hot-tamale self:

  • This week on "So You Think You Can Dance," Ashley and Chris went home, and for the most part this was the right call by America and the judges. But that didn't make it any easier to say goodbye to this talented twosome, especially when they were in tears onstage--and backstage, later on, when they talked to reporters immediately after Thursday's results show.

The pair appeared to be optimistic, speaking of their gratitude for the "SYTYCD" opportunity and looking to the future (Chris is moving out to Los Angeles to pursue his career; foodie Ashley dreams of some sort of "Dancing Chef" dance/cooking show, which I would totally watch). But their disappointment was very evident, especially when they spoke of what they'll miss most about the show, the genres of dance that they never got to do on-air, and the choreographers they never got to work with.

Watch Chris and Ashley's bittersweet post-results show interview, to get their perspective on their brief but memorable "SYTYCD" journeys.

  • This week's elimination on "So You Think You Can Dance" was probably the least shocking of this season; when cameras panned backstage to show judges Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy, and guest Travis Wall dramatically debating in the wings while musical act Florence & The Machine performed, it all seemed just for show. I imagined they were really chatting about the weather or where to go for dinner afterwards, rather than actually hemming and hawing over their decision. Unlike past weeks, their choice seemed obvious here: It was Ashley and Chris's time to go. And so it came to be. Nigel, Mary, and Travis did send Ashley and Chris home this Thursday.

Ashley and Chris were joined in the bottom six by Jordan and Tadd and Ryan and Ricky, as I'd predicted. Jordan and Tadd didn't really deserve to be there ("People must have gone to the kitchen while they were dancing," Mary semi-jokingly hypothesized), but I assume their style of dance, the smooth waltz, and their routine's bizarre sea-creature

  • A few months ago, when Pia Toscano was voted off "American Idol" in one of the biggest elimination shockers in "Idol" history, she thought her showbiz dream had come to an end. "I really did," she admits. "I was so upset. I thought, 'Oh no, this it, it's over. No one's going to want to work with someone who came in ninth place!'"

Well, obviously plenty of people, namely Jimmy Iovine, wanted to work with Pia, who is now signed to Interscope--despite her disappointing finish. In fact, she'd barely cleaned out her "Idol" dressing room or finished reading all the outraged protests in her Twitter feed before rumors stared circulating that Jimmy had already swept her up and signed her. However, Pia's Interscope deal was only officially announced this week, and she insists that it only came together recently. Her debut single "This Time," which she premiered Wednesday at the Idols Live Tour kickoff show in Salt Lake City, finally comes out July 12.

  • The Idols Live Tour is now officially underway (it kicked off Wednesday night in Salt Lake City), and while I'll reserve final judgment for when the tour blasts through my native Los Angeles next week, I do have my issues with the whopping 31-song setlist: James Durbin doesn't get any pyro, Naima Adedapo doesn't get to do African dance in the background of every single number, it doesn't seem very fair that Pia Toscano gets to perform her new original single, I kind of miss the old tour format in which each contestant got to do his/her own mini-concert-within-a-concert...and most importantly, there's not enough darn Paul McDonald. That last one is inexcusable.

But I do know what I like, and I LIKE THIS: The splashy arena-rock finale of this year's Idols Live Tour is a massive pop-metal medley, like the "Rock Of Ages" musical come to life with Durbin filling in as ex-Idol Constantine Maroulis's more-than-capable understudy. Regular readers know that I have long rallied for a Power

  • Last week's controversial (if non-unanimous) decision to cut the stunning Miranda--following the previous week's equally controversial quadruple elimination--only raised the stakes this week on "So You Think You Can Dance." It proved anyone could get the axe on this highly competitive show, no matter how talented. Even "power couples" like Melanie and Marko and Sasha and Alexander aren't 100 percent safe--especially not this week, when they delivered performances that weren't quite up to par with their previous stellar routines.

The judges will certainly have their work cut out for them Thursday night, and among them will be guest judges Carmen Electra and Season 2 "SYTYCD" alum-turned-genius choreographer Travis Wall, who joined the panel this Wednesday. The value of Carmen's contribution to the show was debatable. She did rattle off a list of impressive dance credentials at the start of the show to prove she's not just Prince's ex-protégé, Dave Navarro's ex-wife, or a marketer of

  • The Idols Live Tour, featuring the top 11 contestants from "American Idol" Season 10, kicks off this week at the Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah, and over the past few weeks the Idols have been hard at work in a super-secret Los Angeles bunker rehearsing for the big event. Among them are, of course, winner Scotty McCreery, the main attraction for many fans buying a golden ticket to the show.

Reality Rocks recently gained entry to that super-secret bunker, where I got to interview all 11 Idols about their tour plans and beyond. And Scotty's interview was pretty interesting. McCreery doubters should be impressed by his maturity and composure, as well as his knowledge of old-school country music (Conway Twitty, Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, Elvis Presley), considering this kid is only 17 years old. Hopefully this recent Opry performer can bring back a little bit of that vintage flavor when he releases his debut album later this year--a mix of songs that can "make you dance and

Among them are Lauren Alaina, "American Idol" runner-up and America's sweetheart.

"Idol" viewers has almost literally seen Lauren grow up before their eyes, and she's transformed from a plucky little girl in tie-dye to a glamourpuss in sleek black Lycra and a sleek blonde blowout. In our pre-tour interview below, Lauren discusses her fabulous makeover (seriously, the girl's looking good), as well as the fashions she'll be rocking on the tour. And of course, she talks a bit about her future: While she'll be doing an "out of her element" pop song on the tour (it's a mystery duet!), after the tour, her debut album will be 100 percent COUNTRY, news that will surely please her core fanbase.

Among them are Haley Reinhart, this season's golden-haired dark horse and one of the show's most dynamic and beloved performers.

Getting a chance to chat with Haley at that aforementioned super-secret bunker was a blast; it felt more like a gab session with a good girlfriend than a formal interview, thanks to her spunky spirit. Our between-rehearsal-songs interview was all too brief, but there was still plenty to dish about, including shoes, that rumored single she was supposed to sing on the "Idol" finale but didn't, future album plans, judge criticism, jamming with her awesome rock 'n' roll parents...and a long-lost Haley Family Christmas Album! It's a Christmas miracle!

Okay, so it won't be literally smoking--sadly, James reveals in his rehearsal-space interview here that there will be no pyro on the tour. James reveals a lot in this two-part chat, actually--from a close-up view of his awesomely hand-decorated guitar, to that whole Skid Row scandal, to his plans after the tour and his many post-"Idol" rock 'n' roll fantasies. His love for metal is apparent, and contagious, and truly a wonder to behold...just look at how his face lights up when he talks about his favorite Swedish bands or dreams of headlining hard
