  • Season 8 of "So You Think You Can Dance" may be the most competitive season yet, but the most moving dance of S8 so far hasn't been by any of the actual contestants. That honor goes to two members of Oakland's Axis Dance Company, one of whom is in a wheelchair.

Judge Lil' C jokingly told contestant Miranda this week, "With legs like those, who needs arms?"--but ironically, the opposite could be said of brawny wheelchair-bound Axis dancer Rodney Bell, who stunningly performed on this week's "SYTYCD" results show with partner Sonsheree Giles. The two danced an excerpt from a brilliant Alex Ketley-choreographed piece called "To Color Me Different," and it was utterly inspiring, proving that dancers come in all shapes and sizes.

Axis was founded in 1987 by Thais Mazur and is now under the artistic direction of Judith Smith, both of whom had a dream of combining differently abled dancers in "physically integrated" routines. (Axis's mission statement on its website, axisofdance.org, is to

  • "Thursdays...they suck," hostess Cat Deeley griped at the start of this week's "So You Think You Can Dance" results show. Yep, they sure do, Cat. Especially when the wrong contestants go home.

Granted, this week's elimination night wasn't quite as hard a blow as last week's, since only two dancers (compared to last Thursday's whopping four) went home. And perhaps it is harsh to say that the "wrong" dancers got cut, when really, in a season as competitive as this one, there are no "right" dancers to eliminate--all are worthy, and all could have easily made the top 10 in a past "SYTYCD" season. But still, I have serious issues with who was eliminated this week, particularly among the girls.

Two of the couples in the bottom were Ashley and Chris and Caitlynn and Mitchell, as I'd predicted. Although Caitlynn and Mitchell's samba this week was superb, I figured they'd be in danger simply because they did a less popular genre of dance. (Let's face it: Couples who get contemporary and hip-hop

  • On Wednesday night the first season of "The Voice" wrapped up, with longtime frontrunner Javier Colon unsurprsingly winning in a narrow (2 percent) lead over the lovely Dia Frampton. After the big event, I was delighted to get to chat on the red carpet with both Javier and Dia, as well as some other "Voice" alums and...drumroll, please...Javier's finale night duet partner, the legendary Stevie Nicks.

Check out my red carpet interviews with Javier, Dia, Vicci Martinez, Beverly McClellan (with Christina Aguilera on her arm), Nakia, host Carson Daly, and social media guru Alison Haislip...and of course, make sure to watch for the fabulously leather-gloved and aviator-framed Stevie, who had plenty of nice things to say about Javier.

  • Last night, Javier Colon won the first season of "The Voice," and it wasn't exactly the most shocking reality TV finale ever. While it seemed like any of the other three--especially Dia Frampton, who had the number one song on iTunes this week--had a chance to take the title, Javier was a frontrunner from the very beginning, even before the season started (his first audition was heavily featured in "Voice" teaser promos). So his victory practically seemed pre-ordained.

Even though Javier's triumph was no surprise, there is still much for my Yahoo! colleague Matt Whitfield and I to discuss today. Did the same gender-bias issues that plague "American Idol" prevent Dia, Vicci, and Beverly from winning "The Voice"? Will the other three finalists also get (much-deserved) record deals? What's going to happen with Dia's pre-"Voice" band, Meg & Dia? Why were poor Vicci and Beverly forced to duet with Pat Monahan and Ryan Tedder last night (and why was Ryan wearing those unflattering white

  • Vicci Martinez may have gone far on "The Voice" this year, but this wasn't her first attempt at reality-TV fame. She was on "Star Search" as a teenager in 2003, making it to the second round on that show. But more interestingly, a year before that, the Tacoma singer-songwriter auditioned for the very first season of "American Idol" and scored a golden ticket to Hollywood--but decided not to stay on the show, walking away from a chance to compete against (and possibly beat?) Kelly Clarkson on what was soon to become the biggest TV talent competition in the world.

Speaking on "The Voice" finale red carpet this Wednesday, Vicci talked frankly about this surprising decision. "I know I was only 16 then, but my instincts kicked in just reading the contract," she revealed.

She also said the interview questions asked of her by producers during her brief "Idol" run didn't sit well with her. "I was like, this is mean," she said. "Some of the stuff that they were asking me, that's not what

  • After losing four very amazing dancers last week, "So You Think You Can Dance" easily rebounded this Wednesday, thanks to the 16 also-amazing dancers that remained. But Thursday will be a whole other story. It's going to be another VERY tough call for the judges, and the voters at home, this week.

    Here's how everyone did...

    Sasha & Alexander - Contemporary
A touching and very original Dee Caspary routine to "Belong" by Cary Brothers, centered on a yellow piano--with Alexander cast as a pensive, lonely musician and Sasha as the long-lost muse who haunts his work--this number required just as intense an emotional connection as the returning-soldier Nappytabs routine they did last week. I think their chemistry was convincing here, just as it was last week--but, just like last week, I think Sasha outshined Alexander. She always does, and as great as he is, I honestly think Alexander was incredibly lucky to pull her name out of Cat Deeley's hat at the start of this season. Sasha is a force

  • For weeks now on "The Voice," viewers had assumed that Javier Colon--who'd been the frontrunner since before the season even started, when his first audition of "Time After Time" was heavily featured in "Voice" promo teasers--had the competition in the bag. So perhaps it was no surprise when he triumphed over Beverly McClellan, Vicci Martinez, and his most formidable opponent, iTunes chart-topper Dia Frampton (who came in second to Javier, separated by only 2 percent of the votes), on Wednesday's big finale.

As his mentor Adam Levine put it, this was not Javier's first time at the rodeo. He sang with the Derek Trucks Band in the early 2000s, and was signed to Capitol Records after that; the first single off his 2003 self-titled debut album for Capitol, "Crazy," was a minor chart success, reaching number 95 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 42 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. (No wonder he looked like such a pro performing with legend Stevie Nicks on the "Voice" finale!) Javier's
