  • Sure, American Idol had Sanjaya Malakar. But identical twins John & Edward, the controversial contestants on Britain's X Factor whose polarizing performances are causing fistfights to break out at pub viewing parties across the United Kingdom, make Sanjaya seem like Adam Lambert in comparison. Seriously, if there was such a thing as Vote For The Worst U.K., John & Edward would be that site's proud posterboys.

By this, I mean they are jaw-droppingly, gob-smackingly, compulsively watchable, even if they might be better watched with the telly's sound turned to mute.

Looking like Vanilla Ice bookends (a better stage name for this duo might be Double Scoop) and singing just about as well as Vanilla Ice raps, John & Edward have generated English outrage ever since they shockingly advanced to Bootcamp Week over arguably much more gifted, if much less fascinating, vocalists. But much like Sanjaya's notorious Kinks-mangling performance or electric-socket-shocked fauxhawk during American Idol

  • Whitney Houston's "comeback" album I Look To You comes out in Britain this week, so naturally she's been on the promotional fast-track across the pond, capped off by a performance on The X Factor. (Some contestants even sang Whitney songs this week, including frontrunner Danyl Johnson crooning her recent triumph-of-the-spirit ballad "I Didn't Know My Own Strength.") A live-televised wardrobe malfunction, however, nearly derailed Whitney's comeback efforts on Sunday night's results show.

Thankfully, British television decency standards are a lot more lax than the ones set here by America's FCC (who once persecuted Janet Jackson for a similar incident)...but Whitney still almost turned The X Factor into The Triple-X Factor.

Apparently, Whitney didn't know the own strength, or lack thereof, of her brassiere. But to be honest, it wasn't that much a disaster; it could have been much worse. Her bra-style bodice (which became unlatched in the back midway through her song, and then flapped

  • After last week's 29-second tease of Adam Lambert's 2012 theme in a new movie trailer (during which the actors' dialogue actually overlapped Adam's vocals! such disrespect! shaddup, actors!), the full and thankfully dialogue-free song was leaked this past weekend and released on Amazon for preorder. (Oddly, it was released in Italy, Belgium, and the Netherlands first; the U.S. release date is officially October 20.) And naturally, anxious Adam fans are stampeding to hear it, triggering a possible international server meltdown/explosion not unlike something straight out of the Roland Emmerich disaster film itself.

The song certainly has rock cred, as it was recorded by Green Day/My Chemical Romance superproducer Rob Cavallo and co-written by Alain Johannes of Eleven/Spinnerette/Queens Of The Stone Age and his late partner Natasha Shneider. But this is certainly no little hipster/indie sleeper tune, nor is it the eccentric electropop promised to be featured on Adam's upcoming debut

  • Much ado was made earlier this year about Paula Abdul's shocking departure from American Idol, but I personally find today's news--that genius judge/choreographer Mia Michaels has quit So You Think You Can Dance--to be much more crushing.

This morning, the twisted-minded choreographer with a knack for twisting dancers into impossible new shapes made her resignation announcement via her Facebook and Twitter pages (just as Paula did a few months ago). Her Facebook post read:

IT'S BEEN AN AMAZING 5 YEARS ON SYTYCD……I THANK THEM FOR ALL THE GREAT MEMORIES AND MOVEMENT I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CREATE FOR THE WORLD…..TODAY WAS MY OFFICIAL RESIGNATION OF THE U.S SHOW AND LOOK FORWARD TO WHATS AHEAD FOR ME.

    And she also tweeted:

    - I AM OFFICIALLY AN ADORING FAN OF SYTYCD….THANK U FOR 5 WONDERFUL YRS

    - TO CREATE MOMENTS AND MOVEMENT FOR THE WORLD TO SHARE WITH ME WAS A GIFT…..

    - THANKS SYTYCD AND LOOK FORWARD TO WHATS AHEAD FOR ME…LOOKOUT WORLD!!!!!

  • First, Chris Daughtry covered Lady Gaga's "Poker Face"...and now another heartland-rocking Idol by the name of Kris--Kris Allen, that is--has taken on another big blonde pop-bombshell classic. Yes, the American Idol winner recently performed Britney Spears's "Hit Me Baby One More Time," and, as Simon or Randy or Kara might say, he made it his own:

Much like Britney's iconic video for the song, Kris's performance of "Hit Me Baby" took place on a high school campus--specifically Seton High in Cincinnati, at a concert to honor the students for raising $5,000 for breast cancer awareness. Amusingly, it was an all-girl school, so there were plenty of students wearing Britney-esque plaid kilts, which may have inspired the cover song in the first place. (The remake may have also been inspired by Travis's rendition, but that's just speculation on my part; Kris seems like a Travis fan.)

Anyway, Kris refrained from donning a signature Spears-y schoolgirl skirt himself, of course, but he did

  • Austrian Amazon Manuela Horn, you may recall, first yodeled her way into America's hearts--or at into least David Hasselhoff's heart--on this past season of America's Got Talent as the "Yodeling Dominatrix." Her tenure on the show was short-lived, after she ditched her latex catsuit and bullwhip for a more '50s-retro housewifey look, which elicited disappointed red X's from all three judges. But the spectacle of a 6-foot-2 yodeling blonde bombshell still certainly left an impression even after she exited the AGT competition.

So who better to parade down the sidewalks of Times Square today, for the Yahoo! Yodel Studio event in New York City, boldly demanding that passers-by sign up to record their own wacky versions of the Yahoo! yodel in a popup recording studio? After all, who would dare say NO to an imposing figure like Manuela?

While Manuela didn't rock the full-on dominatrix gear today (Yahoo! is a nice, family-friendly site, after all), she did don the sparkly lederhosen of one

  • American Idol judge Randy Jackson is used to crazy auditioners, so he must have felt right at home when came by the Yahoo! Yodel Studio in the middle of Times Square today, where lookie-loos and aspiring cyber-celebs recorded their own wacky versions of the Yahoo! yodel with the assistance of celebrity mentors (including Randy, Jewel, LeAnn Rimes, Ryan Leslie, and Pete Wentz).

When Randy took a break from coaching yodelers to relax in the odd, glass-bubble-like studio green room, I of course cornered him to find out what he thought of the triumphant trifecta of recently leaked "Kradison" singles--Kris Allen's "Live Like We're Dying," Adam Lambert's "Time For Miracles," and Allison Iraheta's "Friday I'll Be Over U." Much to my chagrin, I found out HE HADN'T HEARD THEM YET! Come on, dawg!

Well, in his defense, Randy is one busy man, with the American Idol season 9 auditions already underway and all. And anyway, much to my non-chagrin, he promised to a) listen to the Kradison songs ON MY

  • Superstar producer Rob Cavallo, who's worked with everyone from Green Day and My Chemical Romance to season 7 American Idol winner David Cook, came by the Yahoo! Yodel Studio in the middle of New York City's Times Square today, where lookie-loos and aspiring cyber-celebs recorded their own versions of the iconic Yahoo! yodel with the assistance of celebrity mentors (including Rob, Randy Jackson, Jewel, LeAnn Rimes, and Pete Wentz).

But when I had a chance to sit down with Rob, all I wanted to talk about was a whole other studio-recording situation. See, Rob is one of several producers currently working on the upcoming Adam Lambert album, and he also worked on Adam's recently leaked 2012 movie theme, "Time For Miracles." This was a guy I needed to talk to.

And so there, right in the middle of Times Square surrounded by yodelers awaiting Rob's guidance, I demanded that he discuss how he's guiding Adam's recording process, and give me some sort of album scoop. And thankfully, Rob was more

  • Over the years, "is he or isn't he?"-type homosexuality gossip has dogged various American Idol contestants--like Adam Lambert, Clay Aiken, David Hernandez, Jim Verraros, and Danny Noriega, to name but a famous few. But none of these singers, of course, were ever outed by an actual judge on the show.

However, over on the other side of the pond this past weekend--on Simon Cowell's other big talent show, The X Factor--judge Dannii Minogue did just that. Referring to tabloid rumors that frontrunner Danyl "Best First Audition Ever" Johnson may be bisexual, she joked about his performance of the Dreamgirls hit "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going," saying it might not have been necessary for him to change the lyrics so that he was serenading a female love interest instead of a male one.

"If we're to believe what's in the papers, there was no need to switch the gender reference," she quipped.

Whoops. That joke didn't go over too well. Even the usually unflappable Simon seemed greatly

  • Last Thursday evening, an unprecedented advertising "roadblock" was booked by the marketing masterminds behind the upcoming sci-fi blockbuster 2012, during which a new and exclusive trailer for the film would air on 89-plus different television channels simultaneously. While action-flick buffs no doubt rejoiced at the prospect of seeing a lot of buildings and stuff being blown up CGI-style, many Adam Lambert buffs were even more excited over the rumor that Adam's about-to-blow-up theme song for the movie, "Time For Miracles," would be heard for the first time during the roadblock.

Well, that didn't happen. The 2012 trailer last week was unfortunately, agonizingly Adamless. And of course, many Glamberts wanted to angrily kick a stacked-heeled black leather YSL boot right through their TV screens. That wasn't a roadblock! It was an Adam block!

But now, eight excruciating days later, the time for "Time For Miracles" has finally arrived. A new (and of course improved) trailer featuring a
