Chris Rene Finally Releases New Song, Collaborates with Alex Lambert

Well, Chris Rene has finally proven that he's no one-song-pony homie or one-hit-wonder. After singing his "Young Homie" no less than three times on "The X Factor," and then releasing it as his first official single on judge L.A. Reid's Epic Records, Chris has moved on to a new single, "Trouble." Interestingly, the song was co-penned by Alex Lambert, one of my favorite robbed "American Idol" contestants, who competed on Simon Cowell's final "Idol" season. (Ironically, Alex went home on "Idol" after singing another song called "Trouble"--the Ray LaMontagne one.)

The song's other co-writer is Mike Busbee, who's worked with Idols like Kelly Clarkson, Adam Lambert, Chris Daughtry, Elliott Yamin, Katharine McPhee, Danny Gokey, Haley Reinhart, and Lee DeWyze, as well as with "The X Factor U.K.'s" Alexandra Burke. "Trouble" is a little less hip-hop in feel than "Homie"--it's got more in common with "Where Do We Go From Here," the other original Chris performed on "The X Factor" last year--and I'm not sure if it's quite as immediate. But there's a Bonnaroo-ish, lazy-summer vibe to the tune, and regardless, I am a) happy for Alex and b) happy that Chris is finally getting some new material out there.

Check out the just-released lyric video for "Trouble" below. Think it could be a hit for Chris and Alex? Let me know.
