Cowell vs. Lopez: The Comic Book Battle Of The Century!

It remains to be seen which TV talent competition, the Cowell-less "American Idol" or Simon Cowell's "X Factor U.S.," will prevail in the ratings when both shows premiere in 2011. But how awesome would it be if Simon and new "Idol" judge Jennifer Lopez duked it out in some sort of cartoonish battle royale of egos? Now, THAT would be pure ratings gold.

Well, that sort of Fox-y boxing is unlikely to happen on Fox, or even on pay-per-view...but it will happen in issue number 623 of Archie Comics. "Simon Cowell and Jennifer Lopez face off in Riverdale, as 'X Factor' and 'American Idol' hold open auditions and compete against each other to collect the best and brightest musical talents from the town--including the Archies, Josie & The Pussycats, and more," is how Jon Goldwater, the co-CEO of Archie Comics, describes the upcoming issue's Idolicious plot to the Los Angeles Times.

"This one has it all--celebrities, comedy, music, and plenty of surprises. Who better to become the next musical reality hit than the Archies?"

Personally, I think a cartoon talent show is a fantastic idea: Imagine the Pussycats and Archies going up against Gorillaz, the Banana Splits, Jem & The Holograms, Barbie & The Rockers, the Brady Kids, the Groovie Ghoulies, and Dethklok from "Metalocalypse," while a two-dimensional Simon and J.Lo look on! Maybe Paula Abdul can even show up with MC Skat Cat. That sure would be more interesting than, say, "American Idol" Season 9 was.

Let's hope that Adult Swim gets on that right away. And let's hope that one day, Simon and Jennifer go head-to-swelled-head in real life.

In the meantime, the Simon/J.Lo Archies comic book will be out this July.
