Idol Jackie Tohn’s Got The Memphis Beat

One of my favorite "American Idol" contestants, delightful Season 8 semifinalist Jackie Tohn, got waaaaay too little screen time last year (she only sang on live TV once, sadly). But she made up for that this week with her plum role as femme fatale Delilah Boswell on "Memphis Beat," TNT's new cop-rock dramedy starring Jason Lee an an Elvis-impersonating detective.

It was hardly Jackie's first non-"Idol" television appearance--she's also had parts on "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia," "Veronica Mars," "Strangers With Candy," "The Sopranos," and "The Nanny"--but her latest star turn in "Memphis Beat's" titilatingly titled "One Night Of Sin" episode just might be the breakout opportunity she so deserves.

Check out Jackie's smoky-voiced, smoky-aired barroom scene with Jason Lee below, along with an "alternate take" of the blues classic she performed on the show, Trixie Whitley's "I'd Rather Go Blind." Clearly, Fox's loss is TNT's gain.

James Gandolfini, who won three Emmy Awards for his indelible role as mob boss Tony Soprano in HBO's "The Sopranos," died while on vacation in Italy at age 51. While Tony Soprano was a larger-than-life figure, Gandolfini was exceptionally modest and obsessive — he described himself as "a 260-pound Woody Allen." HBO called the actor a "special man, a great talent, but more importantly a gentle and loving person who treated everyone, no matter their title or position, with equal respect."
