James Durbin Goes Unplugged at Yahoo!

Durbin & band"American Idol" headbanger James Durbin, who recently released his debut album, Memories Of A Beautiful Disaster, on Wind-Up Records, is known for rocking out with Judas Priest and Zakk Wylde or playing with fire (literally) onstage. But the scarf-tailed rocker does have a softer side, as evidenced by his recent unplugged performance for the Yahoo! Music  staff.

Of course, the Durbinator still rocked--just in a kinder and gentler way. And he was certainly kind to me, since he played my personal favorite two songs off MOABD, "Right Behind You" and"Love In Ruins" (along with his first single, "Love Me Bad").

Check out the acoustic side of Durbin below!

James is so incredibly talented, his voice is so versitle to every sound and pitch. I loved him from his audition for Idol, no one can sing like that anymore. Glad he stayed true to himself on his CD and didn't go all out rock. This some of the most refreshing music I've heard in years, a bit of everything. Can only imagine how great he will end up being with a few years of experience under his belt, this music is better than anything I've heard come out for a long time and this is just the beginning. James you're gonna go far and I will be buying that music as long as you put it out! Thanks for being true to you and your style and bringing something fresh to the music scene. I love my DURBIN!!!!!

Say what you want haters, but James has a great voice and was the best and most refreshing talent on Idol last season. While I wish his album had more of a classic metal sound, i.e. old school Judas Priest, I think there are some strong songs on it. "Higher Than Heaven" has a killer riff and "Stand Up" is a great rock anthem. He's more of a legitimate artist than any of the auto-tuned chuckleheads clogging up the pop charts. I wish him much success.

This kid has really shown his versatile talent. His album is great, and I love that there is a range of rock sounds. His ability to change his voice, to match his songs, is amazing. I really enjoyed the variety and his depth of feeling. This kid might lean toward heavy metal as his own personal favorite, but his artistic ability supersedes that and I am glad his 1st album showed that. His following will vary like his music. To those that only want the head banging stuff, you can avoid his other songs. To those of us that know and enjoy a true artist, we can love his whole album. A live performance is always an extra treat, because he is also a great performer. So you just "Go, go go." James Durbin, you knew what felt right to you, and I think you have aced it all. Looking forward to more of your work. I grew up with Bon Jovi, Little River Band, Foreigner, Chicago, Loverboy, REO Speedwagon. Just some of the greats, and believe it when I say, you ROCK it. You are not just for the youngsters.

hey, james! Nice job at the niners game monday...didnt you hear us BOOOOOOOOOOing you?
      Horrible....

You were probably too busy with all your booing and being stupid to hear him, or your ears are like those on people that can't sing and think they sound great. Or maybe you have listened to music too loud for too long and you can't hear. Whatever the reason, your take was all wrong. You obviously don't recognize talent when you hear it.

durbin is as a brilliant performer in a small room as in a stadium, something you can't say about the absolute majority of modern rock and pop artists... versatile, vulnerable, powerful and always, always true to himself and his music... outstanding... the guitarists are just so great...kill it, guys...

James needs to cut this acoustic crap out, his strength is high voltage performing. Also, for his next album, no song should rock any less harder than "Outcast", he needs to be more risky in that regard, not worry about his 'Idol" following, he'll never get anywhere staying in that bubble. He's capable of much better but he's going to have to pay his dues, small gigs, write and produce his own stuff, etc. He's young, that's to his advantage.

I agree with you Kevin. I don't mind the unplugged stuff because it shows how great of a singer he is, but "Outcast" is more of what I was hoping his album would sound like. I do also like "Higher Than Heaven" and "Stand Up" a lot too as I mentioned. Hopefully they'll let him do more of his own thing on the second album.
