Melanie Amaro’s Pepsi Moment: Super Bowl Ad Premieres

Melanie sings the praises of Pepsi"X Factor" viewers may recall that the winner's $5 million prize package included a Pepsi Super Bowl commercial, one which would put the winner in the same iconic company as Britney Spears, Michael Jackson, Ray Charles, Kanye West, and Season 1 champion Melanie Amaro's own idol, Mariah Carey. Melanie's ad will make its television debut this Sunday, Sunday, Sunday, obviously--but it's already available online before the big game.

I'm STILL really not feeling the song (a '90s-retro club remix of Aretha Franklin's "Respect"? why???), and I'm not really sure why Flavor Flav shows up out of nowhere at the end of the spot, but overall, Melanie's commercial is fun and cute. She works the diva thing pretty well, considering her usual lack of personality on camera, even if she does get easily upstaged by an even bigger diva, Sir Elton John. (Does this mean Flavor and Elton are going to be Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul's "X Factor" replacements? Um, probably not...but let the conspiracy-theorizing begin!)

I don't quite think this ad will go down in the annals of classic Super Bowl commercials, but overall, it's a good effort from Melanie. What do you think? Are you Bowled over? Let me know.

And its decision to bring aboard a Chinese partner for "Iron Man 3" and focus the Disney marketing machine on the booming foreign market looks pretty good right now, too. ...
