But considering the unprecedented number of "American Idol" contestants landing deals these days, it seems like it's only a matter of time. It was officially announced today that Naima Adedapo, my favorite female "Idol" contestant from last year, is the latest Season 10 alum to land a recording contract!
Following Stefano Langone's inking to Hollywood Records, Casey Abrams' deal with Concord, winner Scotty McCreery and runner-up Lauren Alaina signing with Mercury Nashville, Haley Reinhart and Pia Toscano going with Interscope, and James Durbin going with Wind-Up, it has just been revealed that Naima will soon be releasing music on the indie label Peak Records, starting with a three-song EP in March. The EP will be produced by Warryn Campbell, who's worked with the likes of Mary Mary, Kanye West, Trey Songz, Musiq Soulchild, Brandy, and Mos Def, so Naima is clearly in good hands.
In a press release issued today, Naima says: "I feel very blessed to be beginning this journey of music with Peak Records. And I had faith in my artistry from the first time [Peak Records president Andi Howard] saw me. Music is in my blood. I feel like I've been taking the steps to creating original music all of my life and now I will be able to share it with the world! I am overwhelmingly excited."
I am overwhelmingly excited, too--especially if this Peak deal leads to music videos and concerts featuring Naima's famously funky dance moves! So watch this space for more on this fabulous fly girl's new music. Congrats, Naima!
