Nigel Lythgoe Discusses ‘SYTYCD’ Season 8

Nigel Lythgoe just may be the hardest-working man in reality TV. Obviously, producing "American Idol" has taken up a lot of his time this year, but Season 8 of "So You Think You Can Dance" premieres May 26, the day after "Idol" ends...and on top of that he's appearing on the U.K. version of "SYTYCD," and he recently launched another TV talent search with his son Simon, "CMT's Next Superstar."

All prestigious projects, indeed...but really, "SYTYCD USA" is still my personal favorite Nigel show. If you want to see an amazingly high level of talent, week after week, you'd best tune in to Fox on Wednesdays and Thursdays this summer.

That was at least my impression when I attended the recent "SYTYCD" Season 8 Las Vegas callbacks, which took place at the Planet Hollywood hotel. The dancers there were incredible--and when they're finally whittled down to the top 10 and matched with allstars (whose names are TBA, though I did suggest Brandon Bryant and Robert Roldan to Nigel), it's going to make for fantastic television.

See Nigel discuss Alex Wong's possible return, injury prevention, allstars, and Season 8 format changes below, and get ready for the big "SYTYCD" premiere on May 26!
