Simon Cowell Proves He’s Still a TV Genius with “Super Final” Proposal

Ever since "The Voice" and "The X Factor" entered the reality fray to give premier TV singing contest "American Idol" some serious competition, the shows have been constantly compared to each other. Which one spawns the most superstars? ("Idol.") Which one  generates the most drama and controversy? ("X Factor.") Which is the most dang fun to watch? ("The Voice.") Et cetera. So why not make it a REAL, sanctioned competition? Well, that's exactly what  Simon Cowell proposed in an amazing tweet Thursday night--and I truly hope he wasn't joking.

"Maybe the winner of @TheXFactorUSA this yr should compete with winner of The Voice & Idol in a super final. Just a thought. I'd be up for it," Simon posted on his Twitter page Thursday. Imagine--harnessing the singing AND ratings power of all three shows! Plus, there are aspects I like and dislike about all three, and I've always thought if I could Frankenstein the best bits of each program together, I could build the perfect reality beast. Apparently Simon has the same bright idea. Genius!

Of course, Simon's former "Idol" nemesis Nigel Lythgoe couldn't resist snarkily responding, tweeting: "@simoncowell suggests the IDOL winner should take on the voice and x-factor winners. The problem is the Idol winner will be a star by then." (Oh, snap!) So who knows if this would ever really happen. [Editor's note: Come on, Nigel, do it! DO IT!]

Simon, who is currently holding second-season open "X Factor" auditions at www.TheXFactorUSA.com, was referring to future winners--of "Idol" Season 11, and "X Factor" and "The Voice" Seasons 2--which is probably a very good thing, since, come to think of it, a battle between reigning champs Scotty McCreery/Melanie Amaro/Javier Colon might be kind of boring. (In that scenario, I'd suggest adding "The Glee Project's" Damian McGinty and Samuel Larsen, and "The Sing-Off's" Pentatonix, to the mix.) But let's just say there WAS a sing-off between the three shows' current champions: Who do you think would win Simon's proposed "super final"? Watch performances of Scotty, Melanie, and Javier's first singles below, and make the call.
