Snackin’ With Sarah Sellers: ‘Idol’ Season 12 Premiere Night Viewing Nosh

Sarah in the kitchen [photo: Justin Goode]Diehard "American Idol" viewers will likely remember Sarah Sellers as the geek-chic food blogger who made it to Hollywood Week in Season 10, after impressing then-judge Steven Tyler with her full, rather Tyler-esque lips and impressing Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson with her lovely voice. (Watch her audition here.) Since leaving "Idol" prematurely, Sarah has been whipping up snack suggestions for "Idol" viewing parties and posting them here exclusively in Reality Rocks--and she's back to get your mouth watering on every night of Season 12, starting tonight.

Tonight is the big "Idol" S12 premiere--with Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, and Keith Urban replacing the aforementioned J.Lo and Steven--and since tonight's auditions take place in New York, a city known for its fantastic Italian cuisine, Sarah is going with Italian pinwheels for her kickoff recipe. Check out her spicy snack suggestion for what is sure to be a spicy premiere episode!

Italian Pinwheels

4oz package prosciutto, chopped
1.5 tbsp sun-dried tomatoes, chopped
1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
1/4 tsp cracked black pepper
1 cup shredded mozzarella
1/2 cup shredded parmesan
egg white
1 package refrigerated thin-crust pizza dough
1 egg, beaten
marinara sauce for dipping
parsley for garnish

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Combine the prosciutto and next six ingredients through the egg white in a large bowl. Mix until well-combined.

Lay out the pizza crust on a floured surface and spread the prosciutto mixture evenly on top. Starting with the longest side, roll the pizza dough into a log and pinch the sides closed. Refrigerate until nice and cool.

Using a serrated knife (dip in water to prevent sticking) slice the log into half-inch slices. Place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and brush with the egg wash. Bake until golden brown, around 15-20 minutes.

Spoon the marinara sauce into a small ramekin for dipping and sprinkle with the parsley.

Bon appetit!
