‘So You Think You Can Dance’: 2009 Tour Interviews

A new season of So You Think Can Dance starts tonight, even though season 5 just ended. In a way this makes me feel sorry for the season 5 dancers (especially winner Jeanine), who've barely had time to revel in their glory before being relegated to "veteran" status. But the less sympathetic side of me is just psyched that I don't have to wait an entire year for another SYTYCD fix.

But to my first point, I want to make sure that the season 5 cast--in my opinion the best SYTYCD cast yet, and one that has certainly raised the bar super-high for season 6's contenders--gets its due. So I've compiled some interviews I did last week at the SYTYCD tour preview at Hollywood & Highland, where the top 12 performed despite the positively sweltering 100-plus-degree L.A. heat and somehow barely broke a sweat. That's just how cool they truly are.

Here's winner Jeanine and Evan, then Kayla/Kuppono/Caitlin, and finally Melissa/Phillip/Randi, all discussing the upcoming SYTYCD tour (kicking off September 20 in Manchester, NH) and offering advice to season 6's contestants. The clip is worth watching just for the moment when, upon my command, Kupono delivers his famous "addiction stare," right into the camera lens. It gave me chills, despite the heat:
