‘So You Think You Can Dance’: Ready For Teddy

I admit I've still barely gotten over the excitement of So You Think You Can Dance season 5, which wrapped up only about six weeks ago and in my not-so-humble opinion featured the best cast in the series' history so far. So when SYTYCD season 6 launched this month, I was a little slow to get on board. Few of the auditioners really captured my imagination like last season's Brandon or Kuppono or Kayla.

Until last night, that is, on the Boston audition episode. Harlequin-trousered, bowtied imp Teddy Tedholm (who was sneak-previewed in season 6 teasers last month) made his national TV debut with perhaps one of the most creative and whimsical SYTYCD solos ever, and it blew me away.

In the words of SYTYCD judge/choreographer Tyce Diorio: "Season 6 is here! Hello!"

And the fact that Teddy auditioned to Jason Mraz's "If I Kills Me"--the song that put season 5 winner Jeanine Mason on the map, when she danced to it with Jason in a glorious Travis Wall-masterminded routine--bodes well for him. I would be shocked if Teddy does not make the top 20 this season after this, unless he really messes up in Vegas.

Teddy's starmaking performance is below--it combines the quirkiness of Kuppono and Mark Kanemura, the wacky lovability of Twitch and Evan, and the style of Phillip Chbeeb, all in one checkered-pants'd package. Watch and get excited for the season to come!
