Speaking to reporters backstage immediately after the show, main judge and executive producer Nigel Lythgoe revealed that the surprising decision was just as last-minute as it seemed on TV, and was made in the final minutes of Thursday's live episode. "I called for Mike Darnell [Fox's president of alternative entertainment] and Trae Williams, who is standards and practices, and said, 'This is what we'd like to do. We've done it on 'Idol' before. I know we've never done it on this program, but it gives us another week for America to see [the dancers], get to know them, figure out who they want to vote for." And thus, "SYTYCD" history was made.
Check out the judges' interviews about this controversial decision, as well as hear their much-needed advice for the contestants (especialy Mitchell and Robert) in what is shaping up to be THE most competitive "SYTYCD" season ever. And make sure to look for some hilarious Nigel/Megan interaction in the third clip...stuff you'd never see on network televsion before 10pm, that's for sure!
