Ruben sings about his wedding dayRuben Studdard is back on the market, ladies! And the Season 2 "American Idol" winner is announcing his new single status in his new video, the very specifically titled "June 28th (I'm Single)." Ruben has taken a sad setback in his personal life--the dissolution of his nearly three-year marriage from Zuri McCants Studdard--and transformed it into a professional triumph with his best ballad in years.
The former groom reflects"June 28th I was saying 'I do' to my bride/And two years later in October we said goodbye," Ruben croons on the old-school soul track, the just-premiered video of which depicts him slipping off his wedding ring and tossing his groom-tuxedo bowtie across the room. "And my bed's been so cold in the space you occupied." But he moves on, announcing to all listeners of the fairer sex, "Ladies, I'm single/So when you see me on the street, don't be scared to speak/Imma need another lady/I'm single!"
Ruben removes his wedding ringThe result is a track that comes across like a much cuddlier, kinder version of Usher's divorce song, "Papers." But what else would we expect but cuddliness from the Velvet Teddy Bear?
Bachelorhood certainly seems to be suiting Rooooben well (the second half of the "June 28th" video depicts him collecting phone numbers from/swilling champagne with some very pretty single ladies), but with a sexy throwback voice like his, it's certain this ladies' man won't stay single for very long.
