‘The Voice’ Top 8 Results: America Loves Country Music, Adam Levine Hates This Country

There was a time, not too long ago, when I was predicting a "Voice" Season 4 finale between two Team Adam contestants: R&B powerhouse Judith Hill, who'd seemed like this season's chosen one from the very start, and exquisite hippie-rocker Sarah Simmons, another early frontrunner. Team Adam totally seemed like THE team to beat.

But that time has sadly passed, because Team Adam was all but decimated this week. On Tuesday's top eight results show, both Judith and Sarah were sent home.

This was a rough night for any "Voice" fan, the roughest elimination night of this season so far — and let's face it, with talent this strong, it would've been rough no matter who went home. But it was especially hard for Adam Levine. Adam lost two-thirds of his team in one fell swoop, with Amber Carrington left as his only hope of still winning Season 4. Meanwhile, his arch rival, fellow veteran coach Blake Shelton, kept his entire team intact for yet another week.

I'm disappointed, but not surprised, by this outcome. I'd actually predicted that Judith and Sarah would be the ones to go this week, although I'd hoped I would be proven wrong. Sarah had an off night Monday due to her coach foolishly assigning her a song that was not only all wrong for her, but is totally played out on the singing-show circuit (Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know"). As for Judith, she sang first, which is usually a disadvantage on TV talent shows, plus she took a big risk by doing a Cee Lo-style, Vegas-y performance of will.i.am and Justin Bieber's "#thatPOWER" that was a major departure for the usually sedate singer.

Both situations were sad: Sarah went home in a week when she really didn't seem like herself, and Judith went home in a week when she claimed that she was finally letting America see the real her. And both ladies deserved to go farther than just the top eight.

So now Adam, Usher, and Shakira all only have one team member apiece, meaning that literally half of the remaining top six are Team Blake contestants. And four out of those six contestants — Blake's three, plus Adam's surviving Amber — are country singers.

Apparently "The Voice's" viewers really love them some country music. Let's just hope Adam didn't alienate those viewers, and hurt Amber's chances, when a hot microphone caught him (sarcastically? jokingly?) grumbling, "I hate this country!" upon learning that America had put Judith and Sarah in jeopardy. Oops.
