‘X Factor’ Director Brian Friedman Defends Zombie Dancers, Big Productions

"The X Factor" has come under fire this season for its campy numbers and bombastic productions--"zombie dancers," "brides of Dracula," and crazy staging that often involves cages and pyro--but the show's director and choreographer, Brian Friedman, defended such spectacles when he talked to the press on Wednesday after the top three performed.

Brian is the man behind much campier number on the U.K. version of the show--including the legendary "Ghostbusters" performance by Jedward, which included proton packs and dancers dressed up as ghouls, and Jedward's jaw-dropping "Oops I Did It Again," which featured Britney-inspired red latex suits and quotes from Titanic--so he's actually used to creating performances much more over-the-top than Josh Krajcik's "Dirty Diana" or anything by the Stereo Hogzz. Maybe "The X Factor USA" should have gone even farther with the camp. At least that would have been entertaining. We'll see what Brian comes up with next season...

Watch Brian talk about Jedward, getting flak from Simon Cowell, U.S. versus U.K. audience, and recruiting "So You Think You Can Dance" alums for "The X Factor." Will we see proton packs next season? That remains to be seen...but I'm sure we'll see plenty of big, splashy, flashy numbers on tonight's finale.
