  • Michael Jackson (Photo: Junko Kimura)It’s been nearly five years since Michael Jackson died, but his family is still seeking answers as to the cause of his demise. A wrongful death lawsuit filed by the King of Pop’s children and mother is set to go to trial next month--and newly unearthed emails supposedly contain a "smoking gun."

Among the legal documents unsealed this week was an email allegedly suggesting Jackson’s tour promoter, AEG Live, was pressuring Jackson’s personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, to get the singer ready for his This Is It comeback concerts in London.

CNN reports that the communications between AEG and Murray indicate the promoters were concerned about Jackson missing rehearsals, and were urging Murray to keep him in shape for daily practice--regardless of his health.

  • Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen performs at the o2 Arena in east London, Monday, March 4, 2013. (Photo by Joel Ryan/Invision/AP)There’s no maybe about it: Carly Rae Jepsen is willing to take a stand for something she believes in.

The 27-year-old “Kiss” singer has backed out of being one of the headliners for the Boy Scouts of America’s National Scouting Jamboree in West Virginia in July. The reason? She can’t support a group with an anti-gay agenda.

The national organization has a ban on gay members.

“As an artist who believes in equality for all people, I will not be participating in the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree this summer,” she said via Twitter. “I always have and will continue to support the LGBT community on a global level … and stay informed on the ever changing landscape in the ongoing battle for gay rights in this country and across the globe.”

The other headliner for the event, Train, announced Monday that they were not yet dropping off the bill for the annual event, but that they would if the ban isn’t overturned at a meeting to vote on the matter in May.

  • Maandig and Reznor (Photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez)It goes without saying that Trent Reznor’s managed to notch a lot of different accolades on his resume—from his early days with Nine Inch Nails to his Grammy-winning film score work. However, here’s one you may not know about: He’s actually married to a musician, and she happens to be his partner on his latest musical endeavor.

Here's the scoop on Reznor's talented wife, who's his main collaborator in the project How To Destroy Angels, which is releasing its first full-length album on Tuesday.

Mariqueen Maandig,(who goes by the nickname “Q” with friends), a striking Filipino beauty who grew up in Orange County, Calif. and dabbled in musical theater during her school years, claimed she never wanted to be a professional musician—she actually wanted to be a fashion stylist instead.

Accordingly, she entered the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandise following graduation. However, finding the curriculum uninspiring, she jumped at the chance to enter back into the music world when a friend offered to hook her up with an emerging band.

Maandig ended up joining Los Angeles buzz band West Indian Girl and fronted the group from 2004 through 2009, meeting Reznor during her tenure there. She released two albums with the dance/psychedelic-rock outfit and managed to keep her budding relationship with Reznor under wraps until the announcement of their engagement in 2009.

To this day, the couple has managed to maintain an air of mystery about their relationship. “I tell people [Trent and I] met at a Mensa meeting, because we met under such unusual circumstances,” she noted to WWD in 2011—without elaborating on what those circumstances were.

  • Could the indie-rap duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis get any more ubiquitous in pop culture than they already were, with a single, "Thrift Shop," that's sold 3.9 million copies and is up to 140 million YouTube views?

The answer is yes, when it comes to a galvanizing, leaping-and-bounding appearance on Saturday Night Live that proved they're not just a one-download wonder. The duo's growing legion of fans now know Macklemore, the frontman of the pair, is as compelling a live performer as he is a low-budget clothes horse—as seen in this performance:

Since the duo may well be around for a while, here's a primer on some other things you might not have known about them, besides what a barrel of dynamism Macklemore is on stage:

    * He's the anti-Puffy. Thriftiness might rank at the very bottom of the list of virtues held dear among rappers. But with the recession far from over for all Americans, music fans were ready for a hip-hop star who doesn't seem to live in an economical fantasy land. Hence:

  • Stefani at work in the studio this week/FacebookNo Doubt has some bad news and some good news for their fans this week. The bad news first: Those who were looking forward to catching the band live this year will have to wait, as they’ve postponed tour plans for the moment.

The good news—which we think well makes up for the bad—is that they made this decision in order to work on a new album!

A post on No Doubt’s Facebook account explained the situation: While touring behind comeback album Push And Shove last year, frontwoman Gwen Stefani found herself “inspired” to write new material. The group decided to go with the unexpected creative jolt and enter the studio at the beginning of 2013.

“The new music started flowing with unexpected ease,” states their note. “After spending three years recording the last album, this new pace feels incredibly exciting.”

  • Scott Weiland (Photo: Tim Mosenfelder)Grammy-winning and multiplatinum-selling rockers Stone Temple Pilots have apparently 86’d their lead singer, Scott Weiland, who’s fronted the band since its inception. The firing was announced in a single terse sentence Wednesday.

“Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland,” read the statement, which was posted on the band’s official site and social media. No further information was offered.

If you’re surprised by the seemingly abrupt decision, you’re not alone. Weiland issued a comment in response, noting that he himself was not even personally told of the news.

“I learned of my supposed "termination" from Stone Temple Pilots this morning by reading about it in the press,” the frontman stated. “Not sure how I can be ‘terminated’ from a band that I founded, fronted and co-wrote many of its biggest hits, but that's something for the lawyers to figure out. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to seeing all of my fans on my solo tour which starts this Friday.”
