  • Art from "Graphic Elvis" by Jeevan J. Kang/Liquid ComicsJust when it seems that every facet of Elvis Presley has been examined--yet another aspect of his life comes to light. The most recent? The King's love of comic books and superheroes, which are explored in a new book, Graphic Elvis.

"When I was a child, ladies and gentlemen, I was a dreamer. I read comic books and I was the hero of the comic books," Elvis said in a 1971 speech. The graphic novel, a collaboration between publisher Liquid Comics and Elvis Presley Enterprises, takes this concept literally and actually sketches him as a superhero comic character.

Written by comic book legend Stan Lee (one of the masterminds behind Spider-Man and the Hulk) and illustrated by a variety of leading artists in the genre, the limited edition book explores a variety of striking artistic takes on Elvis's various iconic looks throughout the decades--including black leather, white jumpsuits, and even an army uniform.

Notes by Elvis/Liquid ComicsBut it's not just the novelty of seeing Elvis in graphic form here that's notable. The project also takes a look at a side of the legend that is often overlooked--his deep and rich spiritual side. The book features a complementary digital app which contains some never-before-seen handwritten notes from the King himself--small summaries and thoughts about his quest for the meaning of life, which were jotted down in the margins of the many books he read.

  • Mick Jagger, pre-fatherhoodMick Jagger is turning 69, and chances are he won't be getting nearly as many ties from his kids as most men of his age. Whatever his children get him (maybe something from the Skinny Jeans for Seniors department at Dolce & Gabbana?), there will be a lot of boxes to open.

  • Bruno Mars famously wrote the lyric "I wanna be a billionaire, so freakin' bad," for Travie McCoy's smash hit early in his career--back when his bank account wasn't quite up to scratch. However, it looks like he doesn't have too much to worry about in that department anymore. The Grammy-winning 26-year-old is now flush enough to have dropped more than $3 million on a stylish Los Angeles abode.

    Mars's impressive new estate

Mars chose the hip Laurel Canyon area for his new address--a historic enclave that housed Frank Zappa and Joni Mitchell back in their heyday, and where Mars will now have such high-profile neighbors as George Clooney. The clean-lined modern estate measures in at 4,064 square feet, has three bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms, and sold in mid-July for exactly $3,254,000.

  • TJ JacksonMove aside, Joe. There's a new paterfamilias in town, and his name is TJ Jackson —the 34-year-old who's just been appointed by an L.A. judge to be temporary guardian of his uncle Michael's three kids.

His initials stand for Tito Joseph, since this Jackson was named for both his father Tito and grandfather Joe. But they might as well stand for "Tough Job," given the seemingly insurmountable odds that TJ faces in helping restore any peace or sanity to the suddenly deeply riven Jackson clan.

TJ had already emerged as 14-year-old Paris Jackson's most visible family ally. Some have said he was more directly involved in her care than her previous guardian, Katharine, 82, who has suddenly become the human football of the Jackson family. TJ tweeted Paris with his support on July 23, publicly telling her, "I know it's completely unfair for them to do this to you and your brothers (Prince and Blanket). We

  • Lady Gaga {Photo: Graham Denholm}All the Little Monsters who were hoping to get their hands on a Lady Gaga doll for Christmas this year will have to wait. A whopping breach-of-contract lawsuit has just been filed against the singer, claiming that she is deliberately holding up production of an upcoming line of dolls in her image.

The company who filed the suit, MGA Entertainment Inc., is the maker of Bratz toys--well-known for its big-eyed, fashion-forward dolls--and is seeking more than $10 million in damages. According to Bloomberg News, the suit also names Gaga's management company Atom Factory and Universal Music Group-owned merchandising firm Bravado International Group as defendants.

MGA claims in its suit that it it paid the superstar $1 million to secure rights to a line of Gaga toys and dolls, and that it wase expected the products would ship to retailers this summer in plenty of time for the holiday season--with ultimate expectations of $28 million revenue.

However, back in April, Bravado allegedly told MGA that Gaga wished to delay production of the dolls until her new album is released next year. Gaga has just recently introduced her new fragrance, Fame, and the suit suggests her camp is choosing to focus on this launch instead.

  • Maybe Bruce Springsteen was much more affected by that "Wreck on the Highway" than we realized.

Opening up more than ever before, Springsteen reveals battles with depression throughout his life in a 16,000-word New Yorker profile hitting the stands this week. It turns out he wasn't just dancing in the dark; he was doing his fair share of brooding there, and even contemplating suicidal thoughts.

Bruce SpringsteenAt the height of his stardom in the early '80s, "he was feeling suicidal," Dave Marsh, Springsteen's first biographer as well as longtime confidante, told the New Yorker. "The depression wasn't shocking, per se. He was on a rocket ride, from nothing to something, and now you are getting your ass kissed day and night. You might start to have some inner conflicts about your real self-worth."

That isn't just an acquaintance exaggerating. Even Springsteen's wife, Patti Scialfa, opened up to writer David Remnick about her husband's bouts with the blues — and admitted she shared them. She says Bruce's

  • photo: Samir Hussein / Getty ImagesBefore she died last July at the tender age of 27, Amy Winehouse was well on her way to being The Illustrated Woman, with a series of provocative tattoos that were usually highly visible to the public, thanks to her preference for tank tops, bras, and low-cut shorts. She never got a chance to write a memoir, but a lot of her life story is right there in ink—the romantic obsessions, the familial sweetness, the aspirations, the sauciness.

"It's a way of suffering for the things that mean a lot to you," she said about her penchant for going under the pen. "Actually I like the pain. To me, it relieves you."
Here's a look back at what Winehouse had to tell us through her body art:

  • Jordin SparksWow! Fans of American Idol alum Jordin Sparks are no doubt aware that the 22-year-old singer has been losing weight over the past couple of years. However, her stunning appearance in a bikini on the August issue of SHAPE leaves no doubt as to how hard she's worked on her figure.

Sparks, who was 17 and a size 14 when she won the sixth season of Idol, tells the magazine she's lost an impressive 50 pounds total. She first decided to get in shape at age 21, claiming she felt tired, sick, and just plain lousy overall.

"I just wanted to be healthy," she notes. "I remember thinking, 'I'm in my prime. I should be happy and fit.' That was the moment I decided that changes needed to be made."

  • photo: Mike Sullivan / WireImageThe Jackson brothers play L.A.'s Greek Theatre this weekend as part of their "Unity" reunion tour. But don't expect to see niece Paris Jackson showing up for the gig, unless Michael's daughter is there to picket.

The name of the Jacksons' tour seems ironic — to say the least — in light of the enormous family feud that's coming to light, with 14-year-old Paris and her 82-year-old grandmother Katherine forming an intergenerational alliance on one side, pitted against her uncles and aunt Janet on the other. The most serious issue is a dispute over Michael Jackson's will, although Paris's acting aspirations and a stroke that Katherine may or may not have suffered are also causing rancor among the kin.

  • George Michael {Photo: Jon Furniss}Careless whispers were definitely not on the agenda when George Michael woke from a lengthy coma late last year. In fact, quite the contrary--the singer and former Wham! frontman scared his doctors by speaking his first words in an accent totally different from his usual dialect.

Michael, who normally talks like the London native that he is, found himself inexplicably using a distinctive burr from England's West Country for a couple days. Since he'd just spent three weeks in a coma due to a life-threatening case of pneumonia, medical staff feared this meant he'd suffered brain damage.

"My doctors were genuinely worried that I had this condition, it's a genuine thing where people wake from comas speaking French or some other language they learned at school," Michael explained to a London radio station.

"They were worried I could have spoken like that for the rest of my life...Not that there's anything wrong with the West Country accent--but it's a bit weird when you come from North London."

  • 'Iron Man 3' races past $1 billion dollar mark on monster foreign take

By Todd Cunningham LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - "Iron Man 3" was soaring past $1 billion at the worldwide box office Thursday, in a display of world domination that would make one of Marvel's super villains proud. The box-office bounty - roughly $700 million from abroad and $300 million domestically - is a major triumph for Disney, which bet big on comic book superheroes when it bought Marvel Studios for $4 billion in 2009. And its decision to bring aboard a Chinese partner for "Iron Man 3" and focus the Disney marketing machine on the booming foreign market looks pretty good right now, too. ...
