  • The Hollywood Reporter just announced that British songstress Ellie Goulding, a teenager who just released her first album, will play at the private Royal Wedding reception Friday at Buckingham Palace. Not a bad gig for a newbie. According to THR, Ellie, whose LP Lights recently debuted at number one in the U.K., is one of Kate and William's favorite British artists.

However, in the U.S. Ellie is still largely unknown, and in fact last month she was playing a venue decidedly more low-key than Buckingham Palace: Yahoo! Music's actual hotel room at the Austin musicfest South By Southwest, where she performed an extremely intimate, acoustic show for a few lucky Y! staffers.

So who is this girl? Well, across the pond, the singer's rise to fame was swift: After recording some acoustic home demos a few years ago, a pair of musical relationships with cutting-edge producers/musicians Vincent Frank, aka Frankmusic, and Fin Dow-Smith, aka Starsmith, laid the groundwork for rapid attention from

  • Weird Al Yankovic has forged a three-decade career by covering A-list artists, everyone from Madonna to Michael Jackson to Diddy. But one artist who didn't apparently appreciate his sense of humor is Lady Gaga, who had allegedly rejected Al's parody of her song "Born This Way." But it turns out it was all one big misunderstanding--and it was her manager's fault! Apparently Gaga never even heard Al's parody until he came forward and put it online in protest.

"My parodies have always fallen under what the courts call 'fair use,' and this one was no different, legally allowing me to record and release it without permission," Al wrote in a post called "THE GAGA SAGA" on his blog Wednesday. "But it has always been my personal policy to get the consent of the original artist before including my parodies on any album, so of course I will respect Gaga's wishes. However, given the circumstances, I have no problem with allowing people to hear it online, because I also have a personal policy not

  • No, Amy Winehouse still hasn't gotten around to recording a follow-up to her critically acclaimed, Grammy-winning breakthrough album, Back To Black. But her father, Mitch Winehouse, has just released his musical debut, Rush Of Love, at age 59.

Since his famously rehab-resistant daughter became an international tabloid sensation thanks to her sultry pipes, towering Snooki-prototype bouffant, stormy marriage to "Blake Incarcerated," and multiple arrests, London taxi driver Mitch Winehouse has also been in the news, frequently (some might say eagerly) ranting to reporters at length about his daughter's troubles. So maybe it's not such a surprise that he took advantage of his fame-by-association and decided to become a recording artist himself.

Like Amy, Mitch dabbles in old-school torch singing. (Rush Of Love is a jazz-crooner album, in a vaguely Bublé-ish vein, that includes covers of standards like "Day By Day.") And, like Amy, Mitch knows how to garner gossip-paper ink. Of course,

  • LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Can a teen idol get a break from the paparazzi when he visits holy sites?

Evidently not, as Justin Bieber is finding out on his visit to Israel, where he is scheduled to play a concert in Tel Aviv on Thursday.

The Canadian pop star sent out a series of angry Twitter messages on Tuesday, complaining that aggressive photographers had forced him to spend the rest of his trip holed up in his hotel room.

"You would think paparazzi would have some respect in holy places," wrote 17 year-old Bieber, who is a practicing Christian. "All I wanted was the chance to walk where jesus did here in isreal (sic)."

"They should be ashamed of themselves. Take pictures of me eating but not in a place of prayer, ridiculous ... People wait their whole lives for opportunities like this, why would they want to take that experience away from someone ... Staying in the hotel for the rest of the week u happy?"

According to the London-based Jewish Chronicle, Bieber was scheduled to meet

  • On April 5, 1994, Kurt Cobain took his own life at his home in Seattle, Washington. Tuesday marked the anniversary of the Nirvana rocker's death. His daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, was not yet two years old when her father died. Now 18, Frances is focusing on her future, and online interest is heating up.

Over the past 24 hours, web searches on "frances cobain" and "frances bean cobain" have doubled. Lookups for "frances bean photos" are also jumping. Considering how famous her father was (and how controversial her mother, singer Courtney Love, continues to be), it's interesting to note that Frances has kept a relatively low profile.

Interviews with Frances Bean are rare, but online queries are not. Of particular interest to Web searchers: her middle name. According to TMZ, she earned the unusual middle name after Kurt saw an image of her on the ultrasound. Kurt allegedly remarked that the as-of-yet unborn Frances looked a bit like a kidney bean. The name stuck.

    Frances, like many

  • When it comes to celebrity power, few can touch pop star Katy Perry. However, Kitty Purry, Katy's pet cat, comes within a whisker or two -- at least on Twitter.

After Katy tweeted a photo of the fluffy grey feline hanging out in her super-swanky shark bed, online interest in the kitty roared, and the photo quickly went viral. The term "kitty purry" became one of the hottest topics on Twitter. Comments on the photo ranged from "a-dor-able" to "awww" to "kitty purry LOL" to "I wish I had a bed like that" (join the club).

According to The Inquisitr, Kitty Purry isn't Katy's only pet cat. She and husband Russell Brand also look after Morrissey (named after the Smiths singer, of course) and Krusty (apparently "a combination of the pop star's name and the comedian's nickname 'Rusty'"). Lest you continue to doubt Katy's obession with cats, don't forget that she named her fragrance "Purr."
