My Chemical Romance Call It Quits After A Dozen Years

My Chemical Romance (Photo: Jeff Kravitz)It looks as if the chemistry in My Chemical Romance has fizzled out. The band, which has been a driving force in the alt-rock movement for a dozen years, has announced the members will be going their separate ways.

"Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing," the group expressed in a short statement on their official website. "We've gotten to go places we never knew we would. We've been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We've shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends."

"And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure."

My Chemical Romance was founded in 2001 by frontman Gerard Way. Although heralded as a pioneer in the emo movement, Way has strongly rejected the classification in the past. Regarding his band's breakup, he posted on his personal Twitter Friday: "Beyond any sadness, what I feel the most is pride."

The New Jersey band put out four albums over their career, with the latest being 2010's Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.
