Wow, this was a great weekfor music news. We found out that hip-hop king Lil' Wayne would not only be releasing a new EP inSeptember, but would be getting out of jail early. There was real talk aboutturning Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch into a state park, and the firstpost-Simon Cowell American Idol Seasonkicked off in Nashville. But, what week in news would be complete without another failed Hollywood marriage to report?
Christina Milian and her husband"Umbrella" and "Single Ladies" producer The-Dream, who wed in September and hada daughter in March, were headed their separate ways.
The-Dream confirmed theseparation Monday when photos of himself and his mistress/personal assistantdoing the backstroke on a Carribean beach surfaced online.
The visual proof drew a waveof attacks on the producer who just released his angry new album, Love King, last month.
He posted an apology on his website Thursday, accepting full responsibility for misleading the public.
"I would love to tell thetruth as to why my relationship wasn't successful, but today that is between meand Christina," he wrote. "It's easy to say it's because of another woman or anew relationship but truthfully, IT'S NOT."
The-Dream, who signed theletter under his real name Terius Nash, said he and Christina decided to keeptheir problems private.
Heexpressed disappointment for falling out of love, but said that it was a partof life. "Nothing's promised or perfect, neither am I," he said. "I am notproud that I lost something we once had...LOVE! I've always been a LovingFather, Hard Worker, Generous, Stern and Eager to prove myself. My faults are Ican be irresponsible and an ass sometimes, but I HAVE NEVER and WILL NEVER be amalicious person or wish harm to anyone, especially those I love or the motherof my child. I'm sorry for the embarrassment to everyone involved! If there'sanyone to blame and you can't fathom this happening, please blame me and mealone for not being upfront! Even though we were trying to overcome personalthings between us, I was just simply scared and embarrassed to let everyoneknow we WERE FAILING and HAVE NOW FAILED!"
The-Dream said he was so depressed by the ordeal that heconsidered suicide. "I've cried about this for months, after interviews, afterprayer and I've tried to take my own life at a point because of the failurethat was looming," he said.
Hefound comfort in advice from his mother. "I was reminded bymy MOTHER that I am not 'Superman' and its okay to lose sometimes...," he said."This too shall pass! And everything will be fine!"
The letter sounds a bit dismissive. But he could have notresponded at all. Actually, not responding would have been a bad idea. Love King isn't selling too many records. He's got to step it up.
We're crossing our fingers that next week's news is equallyas salacious. See you then.
