Justin Bieber Opens Up About Gomez Breakup In New Song

Justin Bieber (Photo: Larry Marano)We all know that Justin Bieber’s breakup with his girlfriend of two years, Selena Gomez, took a toll on the 18-year-old pop star. However, for the first time, he’s being open about the split, explaining that a song off his new album is about Gomez and their failed relationship.

The tune, “Nothing Like Us,” details a “perfect” and “true” partnership that went wrong—with a girl who ended up pushing Bieber away. When questioned if he was heartbroken over Gomez, the singer told Billboard that he’s not feeling his best lately:

“I'm not in the happiest place that I've ever been. I'm trying to get through what I'm going through,” he noted. “I have my really close friends to cheer me up and keep me going.”

Bieber also told Billboard that much of what fans are hearing regarding the breakup is totally untrue. “There's so many rumors. People say I call Selena every day and she won't pick up the phone or I'm chasing her down, and these are all fake stories.,” he said, adding that he doesn’t keep track of gossip personally.

However: “People tell me if something happens on the Internet. It gets back to me, definitely.”

To those who might scoff that Bieber’s problems are minute in the grand scheme of things, the star asks everyone to look back at their own youth and the issues of transitioning into adulthood. “It's funny when people are like, 'You're 18. What have you really gone through?' I'm thinking, 'What do you mean? When you were 18, you don't think that you went through stuff?'"

Bieber also touched on his shutout from this year’s Grammys, saying that he won’t be attending the awards—but that he’ll be rooting for the controversial Chris Brown to win that evening. “His music is really good. That's what they should focus on: The music.”

Bieber’s new set, Believe Acoustic, features eight reworked tracks from his 2012 smash-hit album Believe, plus three new songs including “Nothing Like Us.”
