A blood-spattered two-minute teaser for Kanye West’s Yeezus featuring a snippet of "New Slaves" has been posted on YouTube.
Why the blood, you may ask? Well, the clip is a direct spoof of the very bloody 2000 film American Psycho. It features Kourtney Kardashian's babydaddy Scott Disick and Kim Kardashian’s close friend Jonathan Cheban playing eccentric serial killer Patrick Bateman and his victim Paul Allen, respectively.
(Warning: This video contains strong language.)
The cinematography mimics the film to a tee, only instead of using Huey Lewis & the News as a source of insane dialogue before a vicious axe murder, the conversation is about West’s evolution as an artist up to the release of Yeezus. "Kanye’s been compared to Jesus, Hitler, Walt Disney and even Steve Jobs," Disick declares, spoofing the line about Lewis being compared to Elvis Costello.
West hired Bret Easton Ellis, who wrote the original 1991 book inspiring the movie, to pen the dialogue for the satire. Recently, Ellis tweeted, "Scott Disick’s Dream Comes True in the promo that I originally wrote for Kanye’s new record but not a lot was used."
Sadly, the acting is comparable to that of a no-budget Brain Damage Films horror movie – just a touch over the thespian quality of most porn movies. Still, the entertainment value exceeds the quality of the performances, which are an endurable two minutes.
The American Psycho clip was originally projected on the side of a Los Angeles recording studio last week before an album screening party for Yeezus. Fans posted the outdoor footage on YouTube, but it was difficult to understand the dialogue.
Interestingly, Huey Lewis and Weird Al Yankovic spoofed the same scene from American Psycho in April for Funny Or Die, in order to promote the 30th anniversary of Lewis' groundbreaking album Sports. Who produced the better parody? It's up to you to decide.
West’s Yeezus, which is his seventh album (including his 2011 collaboration with Jay-Z, Watch the Throne), leaked four days before its official June 18 release date.
