When Lady Gaga's parents attended one of her shows when she was still an unsigned artist, they were shocked by what they saw on stage.
"When she was performing at Joe's Pub downtown, she was in a bikini and performing with Lady Starlight and they started to light hairspray on fire," Cynthia explained. "Some people left. Her father, … he actually said, 'I think she has a screw loose.'"
Gaga's parents now better understand her artistic vision.
Gaga said her father, Joe, was with her when she wrote many of her songs. He was sitting next to her at the piano when she penned her 2011 hit "The Edge Of Glory," a song about his father who was dying.
"It was me, my father and a big bottle of Agave Tequila," Gaga said. "My grandfather was on the last leg of his life. I knew my dad was just so sad … I told my dad, 'Don't be sad. He's on the edge of a glorious moment of life.'"
Cynthia initially struggled with her daughter divulging such personal information on stage. "I used to not like her being so open," she said. "We've talked about that. She would talk about very private things. But now, I get it. It makes sense. Everybody feels connected and strong."
Cynthia however admitted that she loved Gaga's MTV Video Music Awards meat dress and red carpet arrival in an egg.
