Madonna ‘Surprised’ by M.I.A. at Halftime Show

Madonna admitted she was missing in action when it came to M.I.A's hand gesture at the Super Bowl last week. The megastar said on the radio show "On Air With Ryan Seacrest," "I was really surprised. I didn't know anything about it."

The megastar's halftime show at the Super Bowl has been overshadowed by M.I.A.'s digit malfunction. Not surprisingly, the Material Girl -- who has known her share of controversy -- was still not happy about it, saying, "I understand it's punk rock and everything, but to me there was such a feeling of love and good energy and positivity, it seemed negative. It's such a teenager-irrelevant thing to do." The 53-year-old added, "There was such a feeling of love and unity there, what was the point? It was just out of place."

The show certainly got the attention of viewers on the Web, who looked up "m i a gesture" at a furious pace. Also popular: "madonna halftime show" and "madonna super bowl."

Despite the glitches —- Madonna mentioned that she had been nervous when her throne docked on stage and about turning a cartwheel -- the performance certainly seemed good practice for her upcoming world tour. But don't expect more of the same. Madge likes to mix it up. "Oh god no! I don't want to repeat myself. I never do that!"

But one thing she might do: Cry. Madonna admitted she had a moment during "Like a Prayer." "I started crying. I felt an incredible sense of warmth, love, and support. To see an entire stadium light up like candles it was…like a religious experience."

Fans will be hoping for more such moments at her upcoming world tour.

I think if anyone's to blame for this, it's the NFL, for consistently scheduling witless wonders to play during half-time.

To Murky : I agree 100%. I also wish whomever produces the 1/2 time shows would SHOW EVEN A LITTLE RESPECT TO THE AMERICAN NATIONAL ANTHEM by ensuring the so-called artist knows the words and the music to it !!!
It is a real slap in the face to our beloved service men and women and veterans.

I wouldn't know anything about middle fingers or nipple flashes, because in the 25 years I've been watching the superbowl, I've gotten up to do something else instead of watching the banal halftime show, with its crappy music and useless pageantry.

Well, you should have NOT taken the time to respond to this post.......who cares if you didn't watch the half time show.....if you didn't watch it, you should have been so concerned with taking the time to respond to something you did not know about.

MIA just showed that she is barnyard trash, instead of a spokes-person for justice!

Is Madonna still singing? I thought she had retired about 10 years ago. The problem with these performers is they don't know when to quit. I mean, how old is she now? Sixty something? And who's this other character with the middle finger? Halftime is when I get up, turn the TV off and go do other things in life, not watch some old performer hired by the NFL struggle to remain wholesome and family oriented. No time for that... I was going to watch the video here, but as always, it's no longer available after a long commercial preceding the announcement!

Thank God Madonna never repeats herself. Someone could have had an eye put out by that pointy bra from "Sex."

It wasn't a digit malfunction, it is a brain problem.
