Jimi HendrixThat's Really Week was excited to hear that Andre "Andre 3000" Benjamin would be portraying the late Jimi Hendrix in a biopic, "All Is By My Side." The long-anticipated film to be produced by Darko Entertainment, Subotica Entertainment and Matador Pictures will reportedly begin production in Ireland this month.

There's just one problem. According to Experience Hendrix, L.L.C., the company that controls the rights to Hendrix's catalog, the movie may not include any of Hendrix's original recordings.
On Wednesday, Experience Hendrix responded to reports about the film. "Experience Hendrix, L.L.C., the family-owned company entrusted with safeguarding the legacy of Jimi Hendrix and administrator of the Jimi Hendrix music and publishing catalog has made it known many times in the past that no such film, were it to include original music or copyrights created by Jimi Hendrix, can be undertaken without its full participation," the company said in a statement posted on its website.

"Experience Hendrix CEO Janie L. Hendrix, sister of Jimi Hendrix, and the EH board have not ruled out a 'biopic' in the future though producing partners would, out of necessity, have to involve the company from the inception of any such film project if it is to include original Jimi Hendrix music or compositions."
Hendrix's music was not used in the 2000 Showtime film "Hendrix" starring Wood Harris as the legendary rock star.
The movie to be directed by John Ridley, who also wrote the original screenplay, will be based on Hendrix interviews and archive materials, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Andre 3000, half of the hip hop duo OutKast, has also appeared in the movies "Idlewild," "Be Cool" and "Four Brothers."
Aside from this week's updates on the Hendrix film, there was a wealth of compelling music news. Jennifer Hudson and family received closure Friday when a Chicago jury found William Balfour, her former brother-in-law, guilty in the 2008 murders of her mother, brother and nephew.
The family of Whitney Houston announced that it would be filming a reality show, "The Houston Family Chronicles," to air on Lifetime. Houston's daughter, Bobbi Kristina, and mother, Cissy Houston, are both confirmed to make appearances.
An illumination of late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury will be incorporated into the band's summer concerts in London. The week also offered major reveals in reality TV. "The Voice" named Jermaine Paul as the Season 2 winner, and according to numerous reports, pop icon Britney Spears will join "The X Factor" next season as a judge.
Additionally, Against Me! member Tom Gabel revealed his serious plans to live as a woman. Kelly Clarkson's uplifting hit "Stronger" took on new meaning when Cancer patients created a new music video for the song. Bruce Johnston of the Beach Boys shared some harsh remarks for the President, and the "Simpsons" producers teased that Lady Gaga would be showing off her meat dress on the final show of the long-running animated series.
