Mumford & Sons Bassist Expected to Recover From Brain Clot Surgery

By Jon Wiederhorn

English folk rock band Mumford & Sons has announced that bassist Ted Dwayne has suffered a blood clot on the surface of his brain, and will undergo an immediate operation.

"Ted has been feeling unwell for a few days, and yesterday he was taken to a hospital to receive emergency treatment," said the band in a statement. "Ted has been receiving excellent care and we are being assured that he will recover quickly from surgery."

Due to Dwayne’s illness, Mumford & Sons have postponed three U.S. headline shows this week: June 11 in Dallas; June 12 in Woodlands, Texas; and June 13 in New Orleans. The band plans to reschedule all of the shows. "We have no plans to cancel or postpone any other appearances along this current tour," the members said.

Mumford & Sons' next scheduled concert is at the Bonnaroo Festival in Manchester, Tenn. on June 15. The group is also booked to play the Glastonbury music festival in the UK on June 30.

Mumford & Sons formed in 2007 and quickly raised eyebrows with their 2009 debut Sigh No More. The band’s 2012 album Babel won a Grammy for Album of the Year and one for Best Longform Music Video (for "Big Easy Express."). The group has also garnered three Billboard Awards for Top Rock album, Top Alternative Album, and Top Alternative Artist.

In addition to being the band’s live bassist, Dwayne plays guitar, drums and sings in the quartet.
