Olivia Newton John has put her deluxe Florida home up for sale. The star of Grease and Xanadu is asking $6.2 million for the property, which she and her husband John Easterling bought in 2009 for $4.1 million. Since then, the couple has put $2 million into renovations, according to the blog for real-estate listing site Redfin.
Now if you’re thinking, "Hold on! $6.2 mil in this economy is insane — especially the way real estate has dipped in Florida," consider this: The property is 6,383 square feet large and rests on the southernmost tip of Jupiter Island, an area surrounded by inlets and the Atlantic Ocean. It's perfect for canoeing, fishing, snorkeling, and boating.
The house, which has four bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms, was built in 2007 and comes with hurricane impact-rated glass windows and doors. (Of course, considering its location, you’ll probably also need mega-expensive hurricane insurance, but if you can afford this kind of home that's probably not a great concern.)
Redfin describes the property as having a "beachy feel; with custom driftwood cabinets, cypress tongue-and-groove ceilings, coral stone flooring, and lush tropical landscaping." It's also tagged as a "high-tech and eco-friendly" residence, adding in the little Grease-related pun "it's systematic, hydromatic, ultramatic."
In addition, the master bedroom has sitting areas, a bar, huge walk-in closets, a pop-up TV and a gorgeous deck with a spiral staircase. And there's also a European Edge lagoon and spa, boat dock, and beach with a picturesque hammock.
In addition to being surrounded by luxury, the lucky buyers likely will have some pretty famous neighbors as well. Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Kid Rock, and Celine Dion are just a handful of celebrities who have bought homes in the area.
All in all, this place sounds like paradise by the seaside: When the rain's pelting down and the winds are a-whoopin', what better place to crank the stereo and shout along to Olivia's hits like "Physical," "Magic," "Xanadu" (performed with E.L.O.), or "Suddenly" (recorded with Cliff Richard). Perhaps you could invite your celebrity friends over for a Grease costume party!
