Sources Debate Over Cause Of Whitney Houston’s Death; Family Says ‘Not A Suicide’

It's only been a very short while since superstar Whitney Houston was found dead in the bathtub of her Beverly Hilton hotel suite. Los Angeles officials, currently involved in investigating the tragedy, are maintaining on Monday morning that the exact cause of her Saturday afternoon demise is--as of yet--unknown.

However, celeb news site TMZ is reporting that coroner's officials have told Houston's family that she died due to a dose of Xanax and other prescription drugs mixed with alcohol. Whitney Houston, shortly before her death

Los Angeles assistant chief coroner Ed Winter gave a somewhat different story to ABC News, confirming that officials found prescription bottles in Houston's hotel room--but nothing he considered out of the ordinary or cause for concern.

"I have more prescriptions than what was found in her room," Winter noted.

More chilling details continue to come to light as the case is investigated. Police revealed Monday that Houston's body was submerged underwater in the bathtub when she was discovered. TMZ's report notes that due to the relatively small amount of water in her lungs, it was surmised that she may have died before her head slipped under the bathwater.

Also at odds are varying stories as to who first found Houston's body. The official report states that a staff member first discovered her; TMZ is reporting that it was actually her aunt, Mary Jones, who came in to lay out Houston's dress for the evening.

Another theory that is currently circulating about Houston's death is that the 48-year-old singer chose to deliberately take her own life.

However, a member of Houston's family has come forward and firmly denied that her death was due to suicide.

"Oh no, this is accidental," said Billy Watson, whose sister is married to Houston's brother Gary. "She wouldn't have left her daughter like that. She wouldn't have done that to her daughter."

Watson told ABC News that the family will be flying out to New Jersey on Monday and Tuesday. Houston's body, which left Los Angeles on Monday, is expected to be housed at a Newark, NJ funeral home that also handled arrangements for Houston's father in 2003.

Houston gave her last performance on Thursday at Grammy nominee Kelly Price's party, held at Hollywood nightclub Tru. According to Price, Houston was not acting under the influence, but merely having a good time dancing and socializing at the gathering.

she acted like she was destin to do something some one with a voice like that had so much to give. Evidently being a christian wasn't it. Who is to say she didn't commit sucide. a person who was an open book to the world look how she expose her child to those elements was she that dumb that this way of life was not good for her child if not for herself. When you want to quit drugs You will quit . You have to want to quit. She marry bobbi with his children he had before she came into his life.she accepted him as is. She spoke very openly about herself and the drugs she was taken.she didn't seem to care.she made it seem like it was an acceptalble in front of her child. She drew that child so close to her how could she not be effected. You have to remember she was losing her voice and her looks that is why she had a close caskets.People with too much money seem to care more about their self than their children. My children is my strength They are a qift from God. These churches are not teaching something. You can't make it to heaven singing. Whitney had a habit of saying Jesus loves me. Did she believe That Jesus was the only one who Loves her. These chiristians do not know the reality of the Supreme Being which is God. Jesus was a servant of God as Abraham Moses and Noah.Christians better check their pastor out Michael Jackson was a Jevoah Witness They all chose the devil way of life.

I do not believe Whitney Houston would take her own life. This is a tragedy and the public should respect the family and not start all the negative rumors. Let the professionals do their job and most of all let Whitney Houston REST IN PEACE..

We should wait until the toxicology results come in as suggested by the coroner, because there are too many varibles here. She was very close to her daughter, Bobby Kristina - and in my heart of hearts - she would not commit suicide. Period.

This voice of an angel has gone home. So may she RIP, and I believe we should keep her daughter in our hearts. I am thankful for the time Whitney was with us and shared her gift of song.

God Bless you and watch over your loved ones.

It was told she had Ibuprofen and antibiotic in her room too. Just a thought- back in Sept 11 weekend of 2011. I had swelling in my face suddenly started under my nose curved toward my cheek then turned toward my right eye. Went to the dentist turned out I had a abscess. I went through three rounds of antibiotic each one for ten days 875 mg, and the pain was bad so of course I had to take Advil too. It was horrible I went back and found out it was cellulitis. Sept 15th Thursday night I felt so bad I thought that was it. Not saying that's it but just a thought. Have to wait for the toxicity tests come back. It may not just been from drugs as everyone claims.

she is human is all we are, we are not perfect, nor should we put any celebrity up on a pedestal. She was a wife, a mom, a daughter, before we should think of her to anyone in the public eye. We should pray for her daughter, her family and those closest to her.....

Again stop trying to keep putting Michael in the category as user it was stated and found he was not on drugs It your head was burnt see how much pain you're suffer from and say you won't take medicine don't you take medicine with a toothache or headache body pain well isn't that drugs? then stop finding fault and let these people rest in peace and have respect stop tying to put everyone in the same category when something goes wrong

The media and the news are just as fault for idle gossip! they're not reporting news when a story on any celebrated breaks they make a run to get out the first story without actual facts first before reporting this wasn't the way the late Walter Cronkite did his report he was legit and reported the facts before he posted anything you all need to take notes or go back to school and see were you fell you can't report your way out of a paper bag! you're known for gossip writing and reporting you better take another look at the good journalist gone before you and take notes them maybe one day you're be remember as journalist of your time and not be called a tabloid gossip columnist good luck and better news to all

For Crying out Loud....Let her REST IN PEACE and let her Family mourn her loss! it doesn't matter HOW. What matters is that her family lost her and so did the fans. She was a human being just like everyone else, and we as humans make mistakes.

I am so tired of all the updates and comments about Whitneys passing. We will all remember how her beautiful voice made us feel and respect her. Doesn't the media realize how hard this is on her daughter and family to keep hearing and reading about their loved one. Does it really matter what the results of her death is. Leave the family alone in their hour of loss.

Benzo's and alcohol ...the list. 2nd drug in line to Michael Jackson cause also Heath Ledger, Anna Nicole, Elvis and more. Mix Xanax, Klonopin or Valium or any other list of sleep aid Benzo with alcohol you won't wake up. I would know I'm 7 months clean from just 1/2 mg nightly for seven years. These are harder to kick then any street drug. The chemical components make it so. There is terrible Nerve pain, rolling anxiety attacks, horrible insomnia. Just google Benzo detox folks. You will be shocked. Warn your loved one's! Benzo's are the number one killer pill in America.

We need to know the causes of death more than one and if alcohol was used to sedate her or if anyone did not check on her because if someone was negligent that person owes an explanation of why they were not present. She is more than an ordinary woman dying alone. She is entitled to a complete investigation as her memoirs will no doubt be published without her words to tell her story. We, the living, do speak for the rights of the dead.
