I clicked on the link for Steve Aoki's "Ladi Dadi" video featuring Wynter Gordon, hoping for a remake of Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick's many times remade beatbox classic "La Di Da Di."
But just as quickly as the electro rhythm and Wynter's opening lyrics, "Dim the lights," signaled that this was not a cover, I was intrigued by the dimly-lit, dinner scene that suggested something sinister was about to take place.
Within 50 seconds, the sultry Gordon has crawled across the dining room table and kicked Steve Aoki in the face, knocking him onto the floor, where she proceeds to unleash on him a WWF-styled beatdown.
My initial anticipation for an ode to hip-hop quickly changed to excitement for this techno tribute to the violent 1989 divorce dramedy "War Of The Roses."
Wynter chases a terrified Aoki throughout the mansion wielding a matching set of butcher knives until Aoki greets her atop of the stair case with a smack across the face with a lamp.
After managing to get back on her feet and confront Aoki upstairs, she kicks him off the balcony, and meets him on the front porch to finish the job all while singing what might otherwise sound like a sexy dance ballad.
Clearly not a believer that men shouldn't hit women, Aoki head butts Gordon, and the couple's brawl commences with biting, combination hooks, kicks to the stomach, and body slams.
Wynter is unstoppable, leaving Aoki to resort to his explosive secret weapon. You gotta see it.
Also, check out the exclusive behind-the-scenes video featuring Aoki's tour of the eerie house in Los Angeles, accounts of what it was like to get beaten with a lobster, and introduction of the stunt doubles.
"Ladi Dadi" appears on Aoki's recently released album, Wonderland, that features collabs with Rivers Cuomo, will.i.am's [[[zuper blahq]]], Lil Jon, Chiddy Bang, Blaqstarr, LMFAO, Kid Cudi, Travis Barker, and more.
