The summer concert season is upon us. According to online ticket reseller StubHub, these shows are fetching the highest prices on the market.
No. 1: Austin City Limits Festival
Sept. 16 to Sept. 18; Zilker Park, Austin, Texas
Average ticket price: $295
No. 2: Sade (with John Legend)
Aug. 20; Staples Center, Los Angeles
Average ticket price: $263
Sade's first tour in more than a decade just kicked off in Philadelphia last week. She'll play 54 dates, including a dozen on the West Coast in August. Last Saturday night's gig in LA proved to be the most lucrative for scalpers.
No. 3: Alicia Keys
June 30; Beacon Theatre, New York
Average ticket price: $226
No massive tour or big venues here, but the diversely talented Keys is commanding big bucks for her show at the famed 2,800-seat Beacon Theatre, just blocks from her Hell's Kitchen childhood home in Manhattan. Keys' only other scheduled date, June 24 at Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles, fetched about half as much.
No. 4: "Big Four" (Metallica, Slayer, Megadeath, Anthrax)
Sept. 14; Yankee Stadium, New York
Average ticket price: $222
These metal bands thrashed their way through Europe in 2010. But this Yankee Stadium gig is their only scheduled U.S. show of the 2011 summer season.
No. 5: Taylor Swift
Aug. 2; Verizon Center, Washington, D.C.
Average ticket price: $211
The country singer's sweep through the East includes a two-night run in the nation's capital, where even seats as far as possible from the stage are mostly going for $100 and up. And to think she was opening for Keith Urban just two years ago.
