Haitian born rapper Wyclef Jean arrivedin his homeland Wednesday to help victims of the 7.0 earthquake that devastatedthe country Tuesday. The destruction caused by the earthquake has reportedly killedtens of thousands of people.
Streets are filled with piles of bodies and demolishedbuildings.
"There are 4 million Haitians that are outside of Haiti," Wycleftold CNN's Anderson Cooper Tuesday night. "So I think this is time for theDiaspora, the Haitians that are outside of Haiti, to step up. Call theircongressman, and say we need a state of emergency for our country."
The Grammy award winning artist said this tragedy isespecially bad for the country that experienced a catastrophic hurricane in2008. "We just came from the hurricane," Wyclef said. "It seems like it's adisaster after a disaster."
Wyclef, who has long supported Haiti through his Yele Foundation, is asking people to make $5donations to help the nation by texting the word Yele to the number 501501.
