The highly stylized vid basically looks like a highlight reel of great pop cinematic classics from the '80s (Back to the Future, Flashdance, Footloose, Dirty Dancing, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, The Lost Boys, Less Than Zero, pretty much anything by John Hughes). It was colored by Damian Acevedo, the man responsible for giving Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F)" video its neon-throwback feel, but this pastel-washed clip feels lusher and more authentic, a true time capsule of teen-dream movies that never got made.
The unique visual presentation isn't surprising coming from j.viewz, whose rivers and homes EP was nominated for a 2011 Grammy for Best Recording Package; the title track off that EP also scored noms for Most Innovative Video at the MTV O Music Awards and the Innovation Award at the U.K. Music Video Awards. But we say "Far Too Close" deserves a nomination of its own…for an Oscar.
